Job Description

About Us:

HaloBraid is a hair technology company that uses breakthrough engineering to help people perform routines faster. We’re building the world’s first robotic hair-braiding system—integrating computer vision, robotics, compliant fiber manipulation, and novel mechatronic machines. This is one of the hardest unsolved problems in robotics, applied to a $300B industry.

8 billion hours are spent braiding hair each year. HaloBraid exists to give that time back. The system collaborates with professional stylists in real salon workflows, reducing braiding appointments from hours to minutes. Our technology works. We’re moving from R&D into deployment with salons, backed by leading investors. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of the hair styling industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Refine the embedded system for a unique robotic/automation product, with a focus on firmware programming, rapid development, and robust solutions
  • Implement, test, debug, and document embedded systems design
  • Collaborate with mechanical, design, and electrical engineers, as well as users

Requirements:

  • Experience with motion control for a variety of actuator types (e.g. stepper motors, servo motors, brushed and brushless DC motors)
  • Experience with industry standard communication protocols (e.g. I2C, SPI, UART)
  • Experience with Python and Embedded C/C++
  • Experience implementing feedback control systems
  • Experience with complex embedded systems

Desired Skills & Experience (optional but the more, the better):

  • Experience with computer vision, including system architecture, software development, integration, and testing
  • Experience with electronics prototyping and design
  • Experience with wireless communication protocols (e.g. Wi-Fi, 4G, Bluetooth, MQTT)
  • Experience in implementing robust perception and computer vision solutions in high speed real-world applications.

Complementary engineering experience:

  • Machine learning
  • Software development
  • Mechanical design

Working Style:

  • User centric, you want to build stuff people use and love
  • Low ego, adaptable, and collaborative spirit
  • Willing to learn through fast-paced iteration and feedback
  • Passionate, driven by innovation

Benefits of Working with Us:

  • We offer a competitive salary, 28 days holiday + bank holidays and a range of other benefits.

Onsite Work

This is an onsite position in the UK at the Paintworks in Bristol's creative quarter.
