Job Description

Mid-Senior Firmware Developer — IoT & Embedded Systems

Location: Rome, Italy (Hybrid)

Experience: 3-5 years

Salary (RAL): 30k-40k

Languages: English proficiency required for technical documentation

About Us

We are a B2C company specialized in the design and production of satellite anti-theft systems for vehicles, serving approximately 60,000 customers. Our focus is on low-power microcontroller systems on ARM Cortex architecture, but we operate across the entire technology stack: embedded firmware, cloud platforms, mobile applications, and hardware design. We are headquartered in Rome and Marche, and due to growth, we are strengthening our development team for the Rome office, working in hybrid mode.

The Role

We are looking for a mid-senior professional with 3-5 years of experience in bare-metal embedded systems and RTOS. You will be responsible for the development and maintenance of firmware for our tracking devices and will work with the rest of the team (hardware, cloud, and app) to design the best solutions for our systems.

You will work on low-power microcontrollers, manage communication with GNSS and GSM/LTE modules, and optimize motion detection algorithms based on accelerometer data.

This role requires autonomy and the ability to carry out work independently, while interacting proactively with the rest of the team.

Main Responsibilities
  • Development and maintenance of firmware primarily on ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers (Silicon Labs, Nordic)
  • Integration and optimization of GSM and GNSS modules via AT commands
  • Implementation and maintenance of BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) stack for communication with mobile apps
  • Power consumption optimization and power management
  • Implementation of motion detection algorithms based on accelerometer data
  • Hardware/firmware debugging with professional tools (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, J-Link)
  • Firmware lifecycle management: from prototype to large-scale production
  • Collaboration with cloud and mobile teams for end-to-end integration
Essential Requirements
  • Solid and proven RTOS experience (e.g., FreeRTOS): Creating and managing tasks, queues, semaphores, mutexes, software timers; understanding priorities, preemption, and stack management; debugging typical issues like deadlock, priority inversion, stack overflow
  • Practical experience with GSM/LTE modules — AT Commands: Configuring data connections (PDP context, TCP/UDP sockets), network registration, diagnostics
  • Integration of GNSS/GPS positioning modules: Parsing NMEA protocols, configuring modules (u-blox or similar), optimizing fix times and power consumption
  • Mastery of C language in bare-metal and RTOS contexts
  • Git for software version control
  • Basic hardware knowledge: Reading electrical schematics, SPI/I2C/UART interfaces, using oscilloscope and logic analyzer
  • English language: Adequate level to read and understand technical documentation, datasheets, and reference manuals
  • 3-5 years of experience in embedded firmware development
Preferred Requirements
  • Bluetooth Low Energy: Experience with BLE stack, advertising configuration, connection management, custom GATT profiles
  • Specific experience with Zephyr on Nordic platform
  • Knowledge of IoT protocols (MQTT, CoAP, LwM2M)
  • Experience with OTA (Over-The-Air) firmware updates
What We Offer
  • Permanent contract with RAL range 30k-40k
  • Hybrid work mode with organizational flexibility
  • High-impact role: you will work on physical devices that go into production
  • Multidisciplinary team: you will work closely with hardware, mobile app, and cloud teams, with visibility across the entire product lifecycle
  • Growth opportunities in an expanding company
