Job Description

Job Summary

Stenograph is seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Linux Platform & Qt Engineer to join the team building our next-generation embedded writer platform. This role consolidates the platform and application-UI seats into a single ownership role with the full scope of both: the selected candidate will own the complete device software stack on a Linux-based embedded platform — from board support, kernel-level platform bring-up, power management, and secure boot/OTA, through the complete touchscreen application UI built against a visual design system supplied by product design. This role requires strong expertise in embedded Linux platform engineering, power management, and shipped Qt Quick/QML application development, and the discipline to carry both the platform and application layers through production release.

Key Responsibilities

•    Own board support package and kernel-level platform work for a Linux-based embedded device: bootloader, kernel configuration, device tree, driver integration, and build-system authorship (Yocto/OpenEmbedded or equivalent).

•    Implement and debug power-management behavior including suspend/resume, wireless connectivity coexistence, and correct interaction with an always-on companion low-power domain.

•    Implement secure boot and an A/B (fail-safe, rollback-capable) over-the-air update mechanism for the full software image, coordinated with a companion firmware update path.

•    Instrument and support platform power-consumption measurement work feeding a system-level power budget.

•    Own implementation of the device's touchscreen application UI using Qt Quick/QML: primary application views, settings, status/notification surfaces, and secondary/always-on display behavior including detach/failover states.

•    Build the UI faithfully against the visual design system and interaction specification produced by product design, and work directly with the designer to resolve implementation constraints with minimal round-trips.

•    Integrate C++ backend/business logic and platform services with the QML UI layer, including live data from the device's real-time capture and translation services.

•    Implement UI-side behavior for connectivity, update/OTA status, and device settings flows.

•    Establish and maintain UI test automation/coverage for the application layer.

•    Collaborate with firmware, application, QA, and program leadership on platform-level integration, timing/latency budgets, update/rollback behavior, UI performance and responsiveness under system load, and touch-interaction quality.

•    Participate in design and code review across both platform and application layers.

•    Utilize modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate development and test authoring, while applying independent engineering judgment and verification rather than trusting generated output at face value.

•    Support the product from early architecture and UI prototyping through production release, including sitting in on user feedback/beta sessions and translating findings into implementation changes.

Required Qualifications

•    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).

•    5+ years of professional embedded Linux development experience, including shipped touchscreen or embedded application UI work.

•    Hands-on experience authoring and maintaining embedded Linux build-system layers (e.g., Yocto/OpenEmbedded or equivalent).

•    Experience with a specific SoC family at the board-support level: device tree, bootloader, kernel driver integration.

•    Demonstrated experience debugging kernel-level power management (suspend/resume, low-power states, wireless coexistence).

•    Strong, demonstrated experience building shipped, production Qt Quick/QML touchscreen or embedded application UIs on embedded Linux.

•    Experience with LVGL for constrained embedded UI surfaces.

•    Solid C++ skills and experience integrating C++ logic with a declarative UI layer.

•    Experience building UI against a formal visual design system or design specification, rather than improvising visual design independently.

•    Demonstrated, hands-on effectiveness with AI-assisted software engineering tools (agentic coding assistants, AI-based code review), with clear judgment about when to trust generated output and when it requires independent verification.

•    Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills, including hardware/software boundary issues and performance/responsiveness issues under real-time system load.

•    Experience using Git for version control and standard issue-tracking tools for project/task management.

Preferred Qualifications

•    Experience with over-the-air update frameworks (A/B image update systems).

•    Experience with heterogeneous multi-processor SoCs (application processor plus a low-power co-processor domain).

•    Experience with embedded NPU/AI-accelerator toolchains.

•    Prior experience specifically deploying a commercial embedded-Linux/Qt device platform.

•    Touch UX craft and hands-on familiarity with UI test-automation frameworks for Qt/QML.

•    Experience with secondary/always-on or dual-display device UIs.

•    Experience participating in user/beta feedback sessions and iterating UI based on real-world use.

•    Experience working in Agile development environments.
