About The Company

Lockheed Martin is a globally recognized leader in the aerospace, defense, and security sectors, committed to delivering innovative solutions that advance technology and ensure national security. With a rich history of pioneering advancements in aerospace and defense systems, Lockheed Martin continually pushes the boundaries of what is possible. The company fosters a culture of integrity, excellence, and inclusion, providing its employees with an environment that promotes professional growth and meaningful impact. Dedicated to solving complex challenges, Lockheed Martin collaborates with government agencies, industry partners, and communities worldwide to develop cutting-edge capabilities that protect and empower nations.

About The Role

The RF Hardware Engineer at Lockheed Martin is a vital position responsible for designing, installing, testing, and maintaining radio frequency (RF) systems, with a particular focus on SATCOM (Satellite Communication) components. The role involves working across multiple frequency bands including C-band, X-band, Ku-band, Ka-band, and Q/V-band, ensuring the systems operate optimally in various environmental conditions. The successful candidate will be engaged in complex RF system development, site surveys, hardware installation, and troubleshooting, often traveling up to 15% globally to support remote or challenging environments. This role requires a proactive approach to preventive maintenance, system testing, and troubleshooting to ensure reliable communication links. Collaboration with cross-functional teams such as system architects, project managers, and testing personnel is essential to meet technical specifications and operational requirements. Candidates should be prepared to produce detailed technical documentation, including schematics, drawings, test reports, and maintenance records, using tools like AutoCAD and Visio. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to national security projects and cutting-edge technological advancements within a supportive and innovative environment.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution or equivalent experience, with at least seven years of professional experience in RF hardware design, installation, and testing. An additional five years of relevant experience can substitute for a degree. Proficiency with RF testing and measurement equipment such as Keysight PNA X, FieldFox, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and BER testers is essential. Experience in developing preventive maintenance schedules, conducting equipment inspections, and creating safety documentation is required. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for producing technical reports, plans, and briefing materials. Leadership abilities are valued, including leading inspection teams, supervising maintenance activities, and training personnel. Candidates must be physically capable of climbing antennas, racking hardware, and carrying equipment. Knowledge of RF system design, installation, and testing, especially for SATCOM systems, is crucial. Willingness to travel up to 15% worldwide is mandatory. Candidates must also hold a TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph to be eligible for this role.

Responsibilities

The RF Hardware Engineer will be responsible for designing, installing, and testing RF and SATCOM hardware across multiple frequency bands, ensuring systems are resilient to atmospheric effects such as rain fade and ionospheric scintillation. Conducting site surveys, climbing antennas, and aligning hardware are core tasks to establish and maintain satellite communication links. The role involves performing preventive, scheduled, and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and applying anti-jamming techniques to ensure system security. Using advanced measurement tools like Keysight PNA X, Signal Generators, and Oscilloscopes, the engineer will analyze S-parameters, P1dB, TOI, NF, phase noise, and spectral regrowth to validate system performance. Producing detailed engineering documentation, including schematics, block diagrams, and test reports, is essential for project continuity and compliance. The engineer will coordinate with cross-functional teams, oversee installation and maintenance activities, and support system upgrades and modernization efforts. Travel to remote or austere environments will be required to support on-site testing, installation, and troubleshooting activities, contributing to the overall success and reliability of the RF systems.
