Job Description

Micron is seeking an exceptionally skilled Principal ASIC Application Engineer to join our ambitious team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in driving innovation and flawless implementation of our ASIC builds across diverse cloud, AI, and enterprise storage applications.

As a Principal ASIC Application Engineer, you will determine and successfully implement advanced validation methodologies, strictly ensuring our products meet the highest standards of quality. Working with global teams, you will use modern technologies and innovative AI tools to deliver world-class storage solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead validation activities for SSD controller ASICs from pre-silicon development through product qualification and production release.

  • Develop and complete comprehensive validation plans covering functional, system-level, performance, power, reliability, and stress testing.

  • Conduct pre-silicon FPGA validation and post-silicon bring-up of SSD controller subsystems.

  • Validate and debug PCIe, NVMe, DDR, NAND/ONFI, and firmware communications across various system environments.

  • Investigate hardware, firmware, and system-level failures and perform root-cause analysis to drive issue resolution.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Architecture, Build Engineering, Firmware, Design Verification, System Engineering, and Product Engineering.

  • Develop automation frameworks, validation tools, and test infrastructure to improve efficiency, scalability, and validation coverage.

  • Assist in customer issue investigations, production firmware validation, qualification testing, and field failure analysis.

  • Drive continuous improvement of validation methodologies, debug processes, and engineering guidelines.

  • Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools and intelligent automation technologies to improve efficiency and accelerate development cycles.

  • Mentor engineers early in their careers and provide technical leadership across global engineering teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar technical area.

  • 10+ years of experience in ASIC/SoC validation, SSD controller development, storage systems, firmware development, or related technologies.

  • Strong understanding of SSD controller architectures and system-level build concepts.

  • Experience working with high-speed interface technologies like PCIe, NVMe, DDR, and NAND/ONFI.

  • Hands-on experience with FPGA validation, post-silicon bring-up, silicon debug, ASIC verification, or validation.

  • Programming and scripting experience using Python, Perl, Shell, or similar languages.

  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to drive complex technical issues to closure in a cross-functional environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Extensive experience with SSD controller firmware architecture, validation, and performance optimization.

  • Strong knowledge of NAND flash technologies, enterprise SSD architectures, and storage system operation.

  • Experience with ARC-based SoC firmware development and debugging.

  • Experience using protocol analyzers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, FPGA prototyping platforms, emulation systems, and post-silicon debug tools.

  • Experience assisting with production firmware launches and customer issue analysis.

  • Demonstrated success leading validation efforts for complex ASIC or storage controller products from development through production.

  • Experience applying AI-assisted development tools, intelligent automation platforms, or advanced analytics solutions within engineering workflows.

  • Proven technical leadership experience, including mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions across global teams.

The US base salary range that Micron Technology estimates it could pay for this full-time position is:

$198,000.00 - $336,000.00 a year

Additional compensation may include benefits, bonuses and equity.
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target base pay for new hire salaries of the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, tenure and relevant education or training.
