Firmware Expert

What you’ll do:

This role serves as the Firmware and Embedded Software Platform Owner for the Genesis UPS platform, with end‑to‑end accountability for firmware strategy, platform architecture, and long‑term technology roadmap.

The role leads complex, large‑scale firmware platform development that underpins the Genesis platform, a key growth engine with significant future revenue impact. It drives platform digitalization and advanced technology adoption—including Model‑Based Design (MBD), Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL), and Edge AI—to ensure platform competitiveness, scalability, and long‑term sustainability.

As a recognized Genesis platform expert, this role partners closely with global R&D and product teams to enable multiple global product variants, ensure platform reuse and consistency, and accelerate time‑to‑market for Genesis‑based solutions worldwide.

1. Serve as the Firmware and Embedded Software Expert and Platform Owner for the Genesis UPS platform, with end‑to‑end accountability for firmware platform planning, architecture definition, and long‑term evolution.
2. Lead complex, large‑scale firmware platform architecture and design, defining technical direction and solution strategies for Genesis‑based products deployed globally.
3. Contribute at platform level to advanced UPS power converter firmware and energy storage firmware development, ensuring performance, reliability, scalability, and robustness across product variants.
4. Conduct competitive analysis and firmware benchmarking; monitor and assess technology trends including microcontrollers, firmware architecture patterns, and Auto Code Generation (ACG).
5. Drive cybersecurity capability and continuous improvement across the Genesis firmware platform.
6. Consolidate and standardize the Genesis firmware platform to support diverse business requirements through common architecture, reusable modules, and shared libraries.
7. Own firmware platform governance, and define the Genesis firmware roadmap covering new feature integration, architectural enhancements, and technical debt management.
8. Lead and implement firmware digitalization initiatives at platform level, including Model‑Based Design (MBD), Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL), and Edge AI applications.
9. Introduce innovative, digital, and intelligent firmware capabilities into products to strengthen technology leadership and competitive differentiation.
10. Define and continuously improve firmware design standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure consistent quality and engineering excellence.
11. Act as a key firmware architecture authority and reviewer, providing expert judgment to resolve critical technical challenges and remove major architectural barriers.
12. Drive optimization of firmware development processes to improve engineering efficiency, robustness, and delivery speed.
13. Deliver firmware platform and architecture training; mentor engineers to build a scalable, high‑quality, and fast‑response firmware organization.
14. Partner closely with global R&D and product development teams to continuously enhance the Genesis firmware platform and ensure readiness for future business and technology needs. 

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree required, master prefered; Electronic/Electrical Engineering degree preferred
About 15 years’ experience in Embedded Software and Power Converter Product development management

Comprehensive knowledge of the Electrical industry. With a focus on power electronics topology control.
Possess extensive expertise in firmware modularization and proficiency in adeptness in Unified Modeling Language(UML). 
Exhibit an in-depth grasp Real-Time Operating System(RTOS) mechanism, including a thorough evaluation of pros and cons for various RTOS platforms. 
Profound knowledge of Microcontroller architecture, including C2000, ARM cortex and RISC-V, and firmware design experience of low level independent application.
Deep understanding of firmware architecture, with substantial experience in developing firmware architecture from the ground up.
Proven experience in Model Based Design(MBD) and Hardware In Loop(HIL) for project execution. 
Advanced proficiency in Cybersecurity, encompassing hardware security, encryption algorithms, secure boot processes, and other comprehensive security requirements.
Experience with standard dev tools: revision control (Git), issue tracking (Jira), profilers, debugging, etc
Prefrred experienced with edgeAI technologies to products, including the integration of machine learning models on embedded system for intelligent edge computing solutions.
Good communication skills – both verbal and written with ability to make necessary status reports and technical presentations to Eaton management and customer
