FPGA Design Engineer

About the role:

Kontur is expanding its R&D team and is seeking an FPGA Design Engineer to develop and integrate high-performance signal-processing solutions for Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems. In this role, you will work at the intersection of FPGA design, embedded software, and custom hardware, contributing across the full data pipeline from radar signal and sensor acquisition to embedded Linux-based processing and data streaming.

You will design FPGA-based processing and control logic for radar systems while also developing low-level embedded software that interfaces with FPGA subsystems, data-acquisition hardware, navigation and positioning sensors. The role combines design, embedded C/C++, and system integration in production systems in demanding field environments. The position is based at our headquarters in Trondheim and reports directly to the CTO.

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and verify FPGA logic for RADAR data acquisition, timing, and signal processing
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies and trends in SoC FPGA and RF architectures
• Develop creative DSP solutions for high-rate and real-time data acquisition
• Maintain and improve DMA data transfer between the FPGA and the Linux kernel
• Develop low-level embedded software in C/C++, interfacing with FPGA-based subsystems
• Develop and maintain Linux drivers and user-space APIs for FPGA-based hardware
• Contribute to system architecture, documentation, and design reviews

Experience/Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in electronics, computer engineering, cybernetics, or a related engineering discipline
• Experience with timing-critical digital signal processing and high-rate sensor systems is an advantage
• Familiar with best practice VHDL design, verification and simulation methodologies
• Experience with FPGA and SoC development environments
• Experience with embedded Linux systems and programming in C/C++
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
