Overview
Synaptics is looking for a Staff Firmware Engineer interested in overcoming Wifi/BT Technology challenges from Android platform to embedded systems. The role will be involved in creating WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity products meeting spec 802.11 and 802.15. In addition, this person will assist customers with feature development, system debugging, training, and publishing application notes. This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Firmware Engineering.
Responsibilities & Competencies
Job Duties
- Design, and develop small-footprint embedded firmware for use in Synaptics’ connectivity products, with a focus on Wi-Fi (802.11) and Bluetooth (802.15) technologies across both Android platforms and embedded systems
- Lead bring-up of new ASICs and design innovative algorithms to enhance connectivity performance, reliability, and power efficiency
- Collaborate closely with members of the firmware team and cross-functional partners to deliver high-quality, production-ready solutions
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship in overcoming Wi-Fi/Bluetooth technology challenges; investigate complex connectivity challenges, diagnose issues at the system and protocol levels, and implement robust, scalable solutions
- Partner directly with customers to support feature development, resolve system-level debugging challenges, and deliver training and documentation including onsite support as required to ensuring successful deployment and integration of Synaptics’ connectivity solutions

Serve as an expert resource for internal teams and external partners on standards compliance, emerging specifications, and advanced wireless features
- Strong C/C++ programming skills; familiarity with ASM is plus
- Excellent debugging an analytical ability
- Good knowledge of Wifi(802.11) and/or BT(802.15)
- Proactive, self-starter, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Well organized with strong attention to detail; proactively ensures work is accurate
- Positive attitude and work ethic; unafraid to ask questions and explore new ideas
- Resourceful and able to solve problems through adapting technology and a solid understanding of product architecture
- Analytical and able to make informed decisions based on experience and data to improve processes and evaluate design options

Strong team player with the ability to work within a geographically diverse team and willingness to share knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent
- 8 years of experience in real-time embedded software development, and code development using assembly language and a higher level language like C/C++
- Soc/MCU embedded system experience is a must
- Hands on experience developing Linux device driver and user applications
- Work experience in Android/Linux/FreeRTOS system is a plus
- Experiences with UART, I2S, I2C and SPI is a plus
- Familiar with computer system architect is a plus

We’re looking for a true legend – someone with abstract thinking and deep expertise in low-level software development. You’ll build vendor-agnostic tooling for MCU and peripheral integration to solve hardware-software integration once and for all. We work at the intersection of embedded systems, code generation, compilers, and machine learning. It’s your chance to help redefine how low-level development is done.
Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture of the driver structures and system layout
- Define scalable patterns for cross-architectural integration across bare-metal, Zephyr, Linux, and other environments
- Deconstruct complex SoC device trees and translate hardware descriptions into structured internal models for automated reasoning
- Partner with the ML team to shape data and annotation models for AI-driven data-extraction tooling
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems development, including bare-metal and RTOS-based systems
- Proficiency in C/C++
- Familiarity with firmware configuration, SoC bring-up, and system-level debugging
- Hands-on experience with code generation tools, or low-level compiler/decompiler/emulator technologies
- Strong background in embedded toolchains: compilers, linkers, debuggers, and build systems
- Python or scripting for automation and tooling is a plus
- Experience with functional-safety standards is a plus
