Job Description

Who are we?

Founded in 2014, Oxa is a global leader in autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, dedicated to accelerating Industrial Mobile Autonomy (IMA).

We develop advanced physical AI and robotics technology, anchored around our configurable and explainable self-driving software, Oxa Driver; development toolchain, Oxa Foundry; and fleet management software, Oxa Hub. We utilise hardware blueprints known as Reference Autonomy Designs (RADs) to enable the integration of sensors, compute and drive-by-wire systems into existing vehicles produced by OEMs.

Our solutions automate repetitive industrial driving tasks, such as the towing and carrying of goods in locations like ports, airports and manufacturing facilities, or asset and perimeter monitoring in environments such as solar farms or industrial plants. We’re helping global businesses to address critical challenges like labour shortages and rising operational costs - driving efficiency, productivity, and safety.

Based in Oxford, and with offices in Canada, our engineering team is drawn from the world’s top physical AI specialists and led by originators of the field.

Your Role:

You will be joining the Launchpad stream, the vanguard of our real-world deployment to support our operations in the UAE. We are focused on preparing our autonomy software to be launch-ready by leading the integration and testing of our cutting-edge code at dedicated facilities. This role goes beyond traditional testing; it is a critical systems and software integration position. You will be pioneering the future of robotics by directly contributing to the development and deployment of autonomous solutions in diverse and challenging environments.

As a Senior Robotics Engineer, you will lead the charge in field operations, exercising a high degree of autonomy. You will be the critical link between our UK headquarters and our international operations, taking ownership of complex field engineering tasks and driving our technical capabilities to deliver the best possible version of Universal Autonomy™️.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead the field operations for robotics development at our dedicated testing facility within the UAE.
  • Act with a high degree of autonomy to lead field engineering operations on-site, ensuring rigorous systems and software integration, testing, and debugging of our autonomy stack.
  • Build, upgrade and maintain complex maps for vehicle testing in real-world environments.
  • Investigate and analyse data to enable critical issues to be identified and resolved in the field.
  • Act as the primary technical bridge between field operations and UK-based development teams.
  • This role requires travel to the UAE, operating on a model of approximately two blocks of 2 to 3 months per year.

What You Will Need to Succeed:

  • Proven leadership in field engineering or robotics deployment environments.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach to troubleshooting complex systems.
  • Ability to operate autonomously and manage project delivery in remote locations.
  • Proven ability to read, navigate, and debug complex production C++ and Python code to troubleshoot system issues directly on robotics systems.
  • Strong scripting capabilities (Python/Bash) to automate data collection, build quick workarounds, and unblock field operations in real-time.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of coordinating across multi-disciplinary and international teams.
  • A degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science or related subject. Focus on Mechatronics, Robotics, or Automation is highly valued.

Extra Kudos If You Have:

  • Experience leading the deployment of complex systems in the field.
  • Proven track record of managing field operations with high autonomy.
  • Experience with distributed version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Proficiency in C++ or Python for industry-grade applications.
  • Deep domain expertise in robotics or automotive engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to debug and solve problems in real-time within remote test sites.
  • Expertise in Linux/Unix environments.
  • A Full UK Drivers Licence.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary, benchmarked against the market and reviewed annually
  • Company share programme
  • Hybrid and/or flexible remote working arrangements
  • Core benefits of market leading private healthcare, life assurance, critical illness cover, income protection, alongside a company paid health cash plan (including gym discounts)
  • A salary exchange pension plan
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
  • A pet-friendly office environment
  • Safe assigned spaces for team members with individual and diverse needs

Our Culture:
