About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer to own the full lifecycle of our hardware products — from electrical and mechanical design through manufacturing, supply chain, and field validation. This is a hands-on, design/build role for someone who is equally comfortable reviewing a schematic, evaluating an injection-molded enclosure tolerance or machine objects, negotiating with manufacturers, and troubleshooting units that failed in the field.
This role starts as an individual contributor with a
clear path to building and leading a hardware engineering team within the first 12 months
as the product line and org scale.
What You'll Do
Product Design & Engineering

Design and specify hardware for connected/embedded devices (e.g., telematics units, cameras, NFC, and streaming systems) — spanning PCB-level electrical components and mechanical enclosures

Own mechanical design for plastic and metal casings, including DFM (design for manufacturability) considerations and machining specs where custom or low-volume parts are needed

Bridge electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines to ensure components, thermal management, ingress protection, and structural design work together

Prototype, iterate, and validate designs through multiple revision cycles

Can follow engineering discussions about system design, protocols, keywords (TCP/REST/API), data pipelines. Understands what engineers need from the device side and can advocate for hardware constraints in those conversations. Can read a spec, API doc, or system diagram and ask the right questions without needing to write code.
Manufacturing & Supply Chain

Source raw components and off-the-shelf modules/units, vetting suppliers on cost, quality, and lead time

Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with contract manufacturers and assembly/mfg vendors

Lead supply chain deep-dives to de-risk single-source components, manage cost, and plan for scale

Support procurement and inventory planning in partnership with operations/supply chain teams
Field Testing & Validation

Plan and execute field test programs to validate device performance in real-world conditions

Diagnose and resolve hardware issues surfaced from the field, feeding learnings back into design

Partner with QA/reliability functions on test plans, failure analysis, and root-cause investigations
Team Building & Leadership (Year 1 milestone)

Build the case for and hire a hardware engineering team as product scope grows

Establish engineering processes, documentation standards, and design review practices

Mentor and lead engineers once the team is in place; represent hardware engineering in cross-functional planning
What You Bring
-
4+ years of experience in hardware engineering, with meaningful depth in
both
mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines

Direct experience with connected device hardware — telematics, IoT, camera/streaming systems, or similar (companies like Geotab, Teltonika, or comparable hardware makers are a strong reference point)

Hands-on experience with plastic and metal enclosure design, including machining processes (CNC, injection molding, or similar)

Working knowledge of electrical component selection, sourcing, and integration for embedded/connected products

Proven experience managing supply chains — vendor sourcing for raw components, off-the-shelf units, and contract manufacturing/assembly partners

Experience running field test programs and translating field data into design improvements

Comfortable operating at both strategic (supply chain strategy, vendor negotiation) and tactical (hands-on prototyping, troubleshooting) levels

Prior people management experience, or clear readiness and desire to build/lead a team

Strong cross-functional communication skills — this role will work closely with product, engineer, operations, and QA

Experience scaling a hardware team from an IC or lean-team structure

Familiarity with regulatory/compliance requirements for connected devices (FCC, CE, IP ratings, etc.)

Experience with camera/video streaming hardware specifically (sensor selection, compression/streaming hardware, thermal considerations)
