About The Company

At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business.

A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight.

Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.

Meet the team:

Join the Sensors Team, where we deliver multiple modalities of sensors that are rigorously tested and validated for Torc's autonomous driving trucks. Your role will have a significant impact on the future of trucking and autonomous technology as we look to Drive the Future of Freight. We are currently seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer who is enthusiastic about thriving in a hands-on environment and ready to grow with the team. In this role, you will lead the development of requirements and testing methodologies, interface with automotive suppliers and stakeholders, and ensure overall alignment and traceability throughout the sensing components, sub-systems and system requirements.

What youโ€™ll do:

The Senior Hardware Engineer on the Sensors team will be responsible for leading the team through the development and analysis of technical requirements, working across the product lifecycle to ensure stakeholder alignment and successful test/validation of each sensor.

  • Develop radar and camera components that meet functional safety, security and functional requirements.
  • Maintain requirements databases using both DOORS and Jama, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
  • Partner with the Systems team to ensure traceability throughout system and sub-system level requirements.
  • Lead and mentor Sensors team members through collaboration with automotive Tier-1 suppliers to enable efficient project execution by removing technical blockers as the projects progress.
  • Ensure the quality of hardware deliveries by designing and establishing incoming quality checks and robust validation plans to ensure sensing components are meeting expected functional requirements.
  • Partner with the Component Enablement software team to execute the relevant hardware component tests.
  • Lead problem-solving activities during design, prototype and production, driving root cause analysis and problem resolution.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and reports related to the above.

What youโ€™ll need to succeed:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field and 6+ years experience OR Masterโ€™s degree in a related field and 3+ years experience.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience working with the following sensor modalities:
    • Radar: Analyze performance parameters including range accuracy, angular resolution, velocity measurement, and robustness against interference, tailored to automotive use cases.
    • Cameras: Evaluate performance factors such as resolution, field of view, dynamic range, low-light sensitivity, and image quality under various environmental conditions.
  • Experience with Requirements Management Tools such as DOORS and Jama.
  • Understanding of automotive ECUs and methodologies.
  • Familiarity or experience with data buses such as CAN, PCIe, Ethernet, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, I2C.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deliverables.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to automotive electronics.
