About the Role

ChipWave is seeking an experienced Senior Firmware Engineer – IEEE 802.15.4 to join our growing engineering team.

In this role, you will be part of the Core IEEE 802.15.4 Software Team , responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing firmware for next-generation Zigbee, OpenThread, and Matter solutions. You will work closely with Systems, ASIC, and QA teams throughout the complete product lifecycle—from silicon bring-up and firmware development to validation and production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, integrate, and maintain firmware for IEEE 802.15.4-based wireless solutions.
  • Develop firmware supporting Zigbee, OpenThread, and Matter protocols.
  • Perform system-level debugging and troubleshooting of IEEE 802.15.4 controller and firmware issues.
  • Participate in pre-silicon validation, silicon bring-up, and low-level hardware bring-up activities.
  • Develop embedded software in RTOS-based environments .
  • Develop and optimize embedded device drivers for wireless platforms.
  • Collaborate with Systems, ASIC, Platform, and QA teams to deliver high-quality firmware solutions.
  • Analyze performance issues and optimize firmware for reliability, efficiency, and low power consumption.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, debugging sessions, and technical documentation.
  • Support the complete firmware development lifecycle, from design through production release.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems , or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in Embedded Firmware Development.
  • Strong programming expertise in C and Embedded C .
  • Hands-on experience developing firmware for IEEE 802.15.4 platforms.
  • Practical experience with Zigbee, OpenThread, and Matter firmware development.
  • Strong understanding of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and low-power wireless networking concepts.
  • Experience with RTOS-based embedded systems .
  • Experience with embedded systems analysis, profiling, and low-level debugging.
  • Hands-on experience with communication interfaces including:
  • UART
  • SPI
  • I²C
  • I²S
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for embedded microcontroller-based systems.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following areas will be an added advantage:

  • Wireless networking protocol stacks.
  • Embedded Linux environments.
  • Low-power IoT devices and connectivity solutions.
  • Silicon bring-up and hardware validation.
  • Device driver development.
  • Performance optimization and power management.
  • Firmware debugging using JTAG, GDB, Logic Analyzers, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or Wi-Fi technologies.
