The Role & What You'll Do
We are looking for a Firmware Engineer to take technical ownership of our next generation of connected devices. You will drive the development of highly optimized software running on ultra-low-power microcontrollers, working closely with our hardware and cloud infrastructure teams.
- Take Ownership: Architect, design, and maintain core C firmware for intelligent asset trackers.
- Optimize Everything: Develop micro-optimizations for battery performance, making our devices run for months on a single charge.
- Connect Systems: Implement robust protocol stacks to keep devices seamlessly communicating across global cellular networks and BLE.
- Test & Debug: Validate firmware stability directly on the hardware target to guarantee 99.9% uptime for theft alerts.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: At least 3 years of hands-on experience in firmware development using C on microcontrollers.
- OS Expertise: Solid experience working with Zephyr OS, specifically optimized for Nordic Semiconductor MCUs.
- Low-Level & RTOS: Proficient in bare-metal programming as well as RTOS concepts.
- Peripherals & Wireless: Proven track record handling MCU peripherals and general wireless protocols.
- Networking: Strong familiarity with TCP/IP application protocols like TCP, HTTP, and MQTT.
- Language Skills: Native-level fluency in Italian is mandatory. Conversational English (at least B1) is required to parse technical documentation and data sheets.
Nice-to-haves (Pluses):
- Prior experience with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
- Familiarity with cellular modules (GSM) and location systems (GPS/Galileo/Glonass).
Location, Visa, & Onboarding Requirements
- Location: Our engineering office is based in Rome EUR.
- Onboarding: You must be available to work on-site in Rome during the initial onboarding and ramp-up period to tightly collaborate with our hardware team.
- Remote/Hybrid: Following successful onboarding, you will transition to a flexible hybrid work model.
- Visa Notice: Trackting cannot offer visa sponsorship at this time. You must currently hold a permanent legal right to work in Italy to be considered. Applications requiring visa or relocation sponsorship will be automatically filtered out.
