Job Description: RTL/FPGA Engineer (Contract to FTE)

Cambridge Terahertz is seeking a talented and innovative RTL/FPGA Engineer to join our rapidly growing startup, initially as a contractor, with a path to full-time employment. You will play a critical role in designing and implementing FPGA-based solutions for our next-generation Terahertz (THz) imaging radar technology. This in-person position at our Sunnyvale, CA office offers the unique opportunity to work closely with a world-class team of RF, THz, and hardware experts on groundbreaking technology that is redefining imaging.

As a core member of our hardware team, you will architect, develop, deploy, and optimize RTL code for FPGA platforms with embedded processors. Your work will focus on high-performance computation, including signal processing acceleration, as well as robust interfaces to external sensors and components. You will collaborate with systems, software, and hardware engineers to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-throughput solutions that power our THz imaging products.

Key Responsibilities

-Design, implement, and verify RTL for FPGA-based systems, targeting high-performance computation and real-time data processing.

-Develop and optimize FPGA modules for DSP and machine learning algorithms, including fixed-point and floating-point arithmetic.

-Architect and implement robust interfaces to external components such as ADCs, DACs, memory, and high-speed serial links.

-Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system architecture, data flows, and integration requirements.

Participate in hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.).

-Document designs, test procedures, and results; support transition to production and manufacturing.

-Contribute to a creative, fast-paced, and values-driven culture that encourages self-growth and technical excellence.

Job Requirements (must have)

-5+ years of experience designing and implementing RTL for FPGA platforms (e.g., Xilinx, Intel/Altera, Lattice).

-Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

-Proficiency in Verilog and/or System Verilog, with a track record of successful FPGA deployments.

-Demonstrated experience interfacing FPGAs with high-speed external components (e.g., ADCs, DACs, DDR/SDRAM, PCIe, Ethernet).

-Strong background in implementing DSP and/or machine learning algorithms in hardware.

F-amiliarity with FPGA toolchains (Vivado, Quartus, ModelSim, etc.) and simulation/verification methodologies.

-Experience with hardware debugging, lab bring-up, and use of measurement equipment.

-Strong communication and team collaboration skills.

-Ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment.

Also Desired (optional)

-Experience with high-level synthesis (HLS) and integrating C/C++ or Python algorithms into RTL flows.

-Knowledge of THz, radar, lidar, or imaging sensor systems.

-Familiarity with system-level modeling tools (MATLAB/Simulink).

-Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and hardware/software co-design.
