About Kubo
Computers give you access to almost everything, and let you do amazing things. But they dump information on you, leaving you feeling overwhelmed and confused. Kubo builds wearable computers that understand how you feel, with the ability to deliver information when you need it, the way you need it.
About the Role
We're looking for a PCB Layout Engineer to own board layout across our hardware, working in a tight loop with the engineer who owns the schematics. Much of this job is doing more in less space — compressing dense, multi-sensor boards into extremely tight wearable form factors, with fine-line routing where signal integrity, RF, sensitive analog, power, and EMI all compete within millimeters. Getting it to fit and work is the heart of the role.
Key Responsibilities
-
Own floorplanning and layout across our hardware — from placement through fab- and assembly-ready outputs.
-
Execute high-density / HDI layout: fine-line routing, tight trace/space rules, and placement that fits severe wearable form factors.
-
Manage EMI/EMC by design — return paths, partitioning, and shielding — with sensitive sensors millimeters from switching power and RF.
-
Route controlled-impedance, length-matched high-speed differential interfaces (camera/MIPI, USB) and isolate mixed-signal front-ends from digital and switching domains.
-
Define layer stackups and handle power integrity / PDN for multi-rail, battery-powered systems.
-
Drive DFM/DFA and work directly with PCB fab and PCBA partners (including India-based suppliers) through fabrication outputs and board bring-up.
Required Qualifications
-
2–3+ years of professional PCB layout experience.
-
Hands-on layout of at least one 6-layer board (8-layer preferred).
-
Comfort with high-density, fine-line layout and tight trace/space rules.
-
Proficiency in a professional EDA layout tool (Altium, Cadence Allegro, KiCad, EasyEDA, or similar).
-
Strong command of controlled-impedance routing, length matching, and high-speed differential pairs.
-
Solid fundamentals in grounding/return paths, stackup design, mixed-signal partitioning, and EMI mitigation.
-
Able to produce fabrication/assembly outputs and work directly with fab/PCBA houses.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
-
HDI experience: microvias, via-in-pad, fine-pitch BGAs, 0201/01005 placement.
-
Flex / rigid-flex PCB design.
-
RF layout (2.4 GHz / BLE — antenna matching and keep-outs).
-
Low-noise analog, biopotential, or medical-grade layout experience.
-
MIPI CSI-2 camera routing.
-
Wearable or extreme-miniaturization product experience.
-
Familiarity with the India sourcing/fab ecosystem (Mouser India, Robu, Hubtronics, local PCBA).
-
Enough EE/firmware breadth to be useful during bring-up.
Why Join Us?
-
Work on hardware at the frontier of computing, AI, and HCI — not an incremental board.
-
Take on miniaturization at the edge of what's manufacturable.
-
Own layout end-to-end across our hardware, with a fast design → fab → bring-up loop and direct impact.
-
Join early, with real ownership and room to grow as the company and the products do.
