We are seeking an experienced
Lead Power Electronics Engineer
to join a high-performing engineering team in Cork. This is a key technical leadership role focused on the design and development of advanced
DC/DC and AC/DC power supplies
for
high-reliability applications
across demanding environments.
You will play a central role in driving innovation, leading a small team of engineers, and delivering robust, high-performance power conversion solutions from concept through to production.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of DC/DC and AC/DC power supplies, from initial concept through to production release

Take ownership of high-reliability designs, ensuring performance, efficiency, and robustness in demanding applications

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a small team of power electronics engineers

Drive architecture decisions, including topology selection (e.g. Flyback, LLC, Full-Bridge, PFC)

Conduct design reviews, ensuring best practices in power electronics design and development

Oversee simulation and modelling using tools such as SPICE, PLECS, or MATLAB/Simulink
-
Lead debugging, testing, and validation, including thermal, EMI/EMC, and reliability testing

Work closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical, systems, and manufacturing

Support design for manufacture (DFM) and ensure smooth transition to production

Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and safety regulations
Required Experience & Skills
-
Proven experience in power electronics design, with a strong focus on DC/DC and AC/DC converters
-
Strong understanding of key topologies such as Buck, Boost, Flyback, LLC, and Full-Bridge
-
Experience designing for high-reliability applications (e.g. industrial, aerospace, medical, defence, or similar)

Solid knowledge of analogue circuit design, control loops, and compensation techniques
-
Hands-on experience with power semiconductor devices (MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC/GaN desirable)

Experience with simulation tools such as SPICE, PLECS, Simetrix, or MATLAB/Simulink
-
Strong understanding of EMI/EMC mitigation, magnetics design, and thermal management

Experience with PCB design and layout for power electronics

Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor engineers
Desirable Experience

Experience with high-voltage or high-power systems

Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. IEC, UL)

Previous experience in a technical leadership or lead role

Exposure to high-frequency SMPS design
