Job Description

Qualifying Degree: B.Tech from Tier 1 Institute | Total Experience: 10+ years Location: Bengaluru, WFO Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete an assignment as part of the selection process.

This role is for a senior firmware engineer who can independently own the reliability of Hoomanely's embedded systems, from real-time sensor arbitration on shared buses to fleet-wide OTA delivery that never bricks a device. The ideal candidate will have led firmware teams, driven low-level architecture decisions, and shipped connected hardware products to production in a fast-paced, sensor-driven environment such as pet wellness, wearables, or IoT devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Firmware Architecture: Architect and develop reliable, real-time firmware using an RTOS, with a strong eye on determinism, power efficiency, and long-term field stability.
  • Sensor and Bus Management: Lead design and arbitration of multiple sensors sharing communication buses such as I2C, SPI, and UART, ensuring no data collisions or timing failures under load.
  • BLE and Connectivity: Own firmware-level design for BLE data delivery, balancing continuous high-frequency streams with bursty event-driven data without loss.
  • OTA and Fleet Safety: Design, implement, and continuously harden OTA update pipelines, including canary rollouts, rollback mechanisms, and boot-loop recovery for a live device fleet.
  • Power and Hardware Interfacing: Own firmware-level battery charging safety, clock tree stability, and thermal cutoff logic in close coordination with the hardware team.
  • Technical Ownership: Own architecture decisions for one or more firmware modules end to end, balancing reliability, maintainability, and time-to-market.
  • Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce firmware testing standards, including hardware-in-the-loop and automated testing, to maintain high reliability across releases.
  • Mentorship: Mentor firmware engineers, review code, and help raise the overall engineering bar across the team.
  • Agile Development: Collaborate with cross-functional hardware, ML, and app teams in an agile environment, contributing to sprint planning and timely delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: B.Tech in Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field from a Tier 1 engineering institute (IIT, NIT, BITS Pilani, or equivalent) is mandatory, with 10+ years of proven embedded firmware experience.
  • RTOS and Protocols: Strong hands-on experience with RTOS-based firmware and communication protocols including I2C, SPI, UART, and BLE.
  • OTA Systems: Proven experience designing OTA update systems, including safe rollout, rollback, and recovery from failure states.
  • Low-Level Hardware: Solid understanding of clock trees, power and battery management, and sensor arbitration under real-time constraints.
  • Languages: Proficient in C and C++ for embedded and microcontroller-based systems.
  • Leadership and Agile: Familiarity with Agile methodologies combined with a track record of leading or mentoring team members.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with thermal sensors, IMUs, or camera modules on embedded platforms.
  • Experience shipping firmware for a consumer hardware product at fleet scale.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and device telemetry integration.
  • Prior experience in a startup or fast-scaling hardware product environment.
