Job Description

Hardware Engineer (Part-Time & Equity-Only)

Company: Furtual

Commitment: Part-Time (13–15 hours/week)

Compensation: Equity-Only (Co-founder / Early-Stage Stake)

Location: Remote

About Furtual

At Furtual, we are building the next generation of consumer robotics. We are a lean, fast-moving early-stage startup pushing the boundaries of interactive technology. If you are passionate about bringing intelligent, physical products to life and want a meaningful stake in a company from the ground floor, you’re in the right place.

The Role

We are looking for a versatile, hands-on Hardware Engineer to own the electrical and mechanical integration of our consumer robotics platform. Because we are in the early stages, this is a part-time, equity-only role ideal for a brilliant engineer looking to moon light, build a portfolio, or join a startup as a foundational technical partner.

Key Responsibilities
  • PCB Design & Architecture: Design, prototype, and test custom PCBs, ensuring optimal power distribution and signal integrity.
  • Battery Systems: Select, integrate, and manage safe, efficient battery management systems (BMS) for portable consumer robotics.
  • Motor Control: Implement and tune precise motor control systems (brushed, brushless, or servos) for fluid robotic movement.
  • Sensor & Camera Integration: Interface and calibrate cameras, depth sensors, and IMUs with the primary processing unit.
  • Thermal Management: Design effective passive or active cooling solutions to keep the hardware running safely within a compact consumer enclosure.
  • DFM (Design for Manufacturing): Prepare schematics, BOMs, and enclosure specs for eventual mass production.
What We Are Looking For
  • The Startup Mindset: You are comfortable with ambiguity, self-driven, and excited by the prospect of building something from scratch for equity.
  • Consumer Robotics Experience: You have a proven track record of working on physical, consumer-facing tech or robotics (hobby projects count if they are highly sophisticated!).
  • End-to-End Hardware Skills: Proficiency in EDA tools (like Altium, KiCad, or Eagle) and a solid understanding of mechanical constraints.
  • Availability: Can reliably dedicate 13–15 hours per week and sync with the core team.
What We Offer
  • Founding-Level Equity: A significant ownership stake in Furtual, directly tied to your impact and commitment.
  • Ultimate Flexibility: Work from anywhere, on your own schedule, around your day job or other commitments.
  • Creative Freedom: Shape the technical roadmap and architecture of a cutting-edge robotics product with zero corporate red tape.
