• Select suitable microcontrollers, sensors, and ICs based on system requirements.
• Evaluate and integrate component datasheets, ensuring electrical compatibility.
• Perform schematic capture and layout optimization for signal integrity and manufacturability.
• Review design for thermal, EMI/EMC, and mechanical constraints.
2. Circuit Simulation and Validation
• Simulate analog and digital circuits using tools like LTspice or Proteus.
• Conduct pre-layout and post-layout simulations to validate design assumptions.
• Set up and run test benches for validating current draw, voltage regulation, and signal integrity.
• Document simulation results and iterate designs accordingly.
3. Hardware Testing and Debugging
• Develop and execute hardware test plans during prototyping and production.
• Use tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and signal generators for debugging.
• Identify and isolate hardware faults through systematic testing.
• Maintain detailed lab notes and reports for all testing cycles.
4. Embedded Hardware-Software Interface Support
• Collaborate with firmware engineers to align GPIO pin mapping and peripheral assignments.
• Ensure accurate hardware abstraction layer (HAL) mapping for all IO functions.
• Support driver-level testing for sensors, actuators, and communication modules.
• Provide board bring-up assistance and root cause analysis for firmware bugs linked to hardware.
5. Vendor and BOM Management
• Maintain and update Bills of Materials (BOM) for all hardware projects.
• Source components with respect to cost, lead time, and availability constraints.
• Liaise with component distributors and manufacturing partners for samples and quotes.
• Assess alternate part options for long-term availability and design continuity.
6. Documentation and Compliance
• Maintain version-controlled hardware design files, schematics, and layout repositories.
• Generate and update hardware test plans, user manuals, and troubleshooting guides.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant certifications (CE, RoHS, FCC) where applicable.
• Document all engineering changes through Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
