Freelance Firmware Engineer – Embedded Systems

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Senior Firmware Engineer to join an exciting product engineering team developing next-generation consumer and healthcare devices. This is a freelance contract opportunity for engineers who enjoy building embedded systems from concept through product launch.

You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to design, develop, test, and optimize firmware for innovative embedded products.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead firmware development for embedded products from concept to production.
• Design and implement scalable firmware architecture.
• Develop high-quality embedded C firmware and resolve software defects.
• Create test applications, technical documentation, and firmware requirements.
• Perform hardware bring-up and low-level debugging.
• Support product integration, testing, and manufacturing activities.
• Collaborate closely with hardware, mechanical, QA, and product engineering teams.
• Estimate development effort and deliver milestones on schedule.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain firmware quality standards.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or related field.
• 5–10 years of embedded firmware development experience.
• Strong programming experience in Embedded C .
• Hands-on experience with ARM-based microcontrollers .
• Experience with:
• Embedded firmware development
• Hardware bring-up
• Low-level debugging (JTAG, SWD, etc.)
• Microcontrollers
• USART
• I2C
• SPI
• Ability to read and understand electronic schematics.
• Experience with:
• Git
• VS Code or similar IDE
• CMake
• GNU Toolchain
• Bash
• Jira

Preferred Skills

• FreeRTOS or Zephyr RTOS
• BLE, Wi-Fi, or LTE firmware development
• Power management and low-power optimization
• Product development lifecycle experience
• Consumer electronics or medical device experience
