Job Description

Are you ready to make a real impact on people's quality of life? Come join the CircleTech device engineering team at NOHO/Kødbyen in central Copenhagen, where we develop and operate low-power IoT gas meters serving hundreds of thousands of households across East Africa.

CircleTech Denmark is part of Circle Gas Ltd. (www.circlegas.co.uk), which has been providing clean cooking solutions on a pay-as-you-go basis with micro payments in Kenya and Tanzania for the past five years. CircleTech Denmark’s role is to be development hub focusing on firmware engineering and data science, developing firmware for current and future meters – preparing for scaling up from 425,000 to over 2,000,000 customers over the coming years.

Join a Young and Highly Motivated Team

Our device engineering team is young (not necessarily in age) and works in close collaboration with co-located data and virtual device engineering teams, and meter engineering teams in Kenya and Tanzania. Meter Engineering and Firmware teams are under the joint management of the Head of Device Engineering.

This is a new role — you will be the first dedicated firmware test and reliability lead on the team, reporting directly to the Head of Device Engineering, and you will shape what that function looks like.

Job Description

  • Own and evolve the firmware test protocols — from daily development builds through to release candidates
  • Work alongside firmware developers during active development to catch issues early, before they reach release
  • Define and maintain regression protocols executed by the meter engineering team in Kenya — owning the “what” and “why”, while they own the execution at release candidate level
  • Act as the functional lead for test quality across the team: build the institutional test memory we are currently missing
  • Monitor real-world meter behavior in the field using AI-assisted queries against our AWS data lake (Athena)
  • Translate field observations into structured reliability insights and feed them back into test coverage
  • Drive post-release analysis — turning field data into learning that improves future firmware
  • Travel for interaction with customers and teams in other locations is an option

Your Profile

A typical candidate will have:

  • A background in electronics, automation, software development, or a related technical field
  • Experience with software testing, QA, or reliability engineering
  • Comfort working with data — writing queries, spotting anomalies, building analysis pipelines
  • Curiosity about embedded systems and IoT device behavior (deep firmware experience is not required)
  • Energetic with an open mind — this role requires both systematic thinking and investigative instinct
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Danish language skills are an advantage but not a requirement

Experience with some of these technologies would be a plus:

  • AWS Athena, S3, or similar data lake tooling
  • Python (for scripting, data analysis, or test automation)
  • Git, CI/CD pipelines
  • Embedded or IoT systems

About Circle Gas

Circle Gas is a fast-growing pay-as-you-go clean cooking business making gas cooking more accessible for urban households in developing countries. We use our own logistics network to install LPG cooking equipment in low-income urban households. Our unique Smart Meter enables customers to use mobile money to pay for gas to cook meal-by-meal, generating daily revenue on a micro-payment basis.

Currently, we have over 2,200 employees operating in Kenya and Tanzania, with more than 425,000 households depending on our clean cooking offering. Our strategic goal is to serve one million households by the end of next year in East Africa. The potential can be counted in the tens of millions spread across three continents. We have the ambition, will, funds, and business model to reach this potential – and we need you to be part of this journey!

Security, scalability, connectivity, and efficiency are at the core of our cloud-based architecture, where every meter connects with our AWS-based stack. In a sense, we are connecting and mapping the developing countries.

To support this fantastic journey, we are establishing a technology hub in Copenhagen, Denmark. Here, we are hiring several people to work out of NOHO in the meatpacking district ("Kødbyen") right in the center of Copenhagen in an energetic and inspiring environment. The technology hub is part of Circle Gas Group Technology, and together with our colleagues in Italy, Kenya, and Tanzania, we are building the technology platform upon which this great adventure is built.

We are a diverse and inclusive international company focused on utilizing technology to do good. Combined with a strong business model, we call it "social business."
