About The Program

The Firmware Engineer Apprenticeship Program prepares graduates to develop the low-level software that controls and enables embedded electronic devices. Through practical training in Embedded C, hardware interfacing, Embedded Linux, and system debugging, participants will build the skills required to create efficient, reliable, and high-performance firmware for modern embedded products.


The programme equips aspiring engineers with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to contribute to the development of intelligent, connected electronic systems.


Program Structure


The programme consists of 1 month of intensive technical training followed by 3 months of On-the-Job Training (OJT) with a company.

During the training phase at ASEM, Cyberjaya, you will gain practical exposure to:

  • Electronics Instrumentation & Measurement
  • Signal Conditioning with Operational Amplifiers
  • Practical Layout and Routing of Mixed-Signal PCBs
  • C Programming for Engineers
  • Embedded C Workshop
  • Efficient Implementation of DSP Algorithms with C
  • Introduction to Linux – Command Line Power
  • Bluetooth Low Energy Communication with Embedded Linux
  • IoT Communication Protocols and Data Formats
  • Data Storage and Access with MySQL and PHP
  • Developing Realtime, Interactive Webpages

During the OJT phase , you will work alongside experienced engineers, applying your technical knowledge to real ASIC development projects while gaining valuable industry experience.

Responsibilities

As an Firmware Engineer Apprentice, you will:

  • Develop and maintain firmware for embedded systems and microcontrollers.
  • Configure and interface hardware peripherals, sensors, and communication modules.
  • Debug and optimise firmware for stability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Support hardware–software integration throughout product development.
  • Perform firmware testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to deliver reliable embedded solutions.
