Job Description

Gravis Robotics is a startup turning heavy construction machines into intelligent and autonomous robots. Our unique combination of learning-based automation and augmented remote control enables a single operator to safely manage a fleet of earthmoving machines in a gamified environment. With over a decade of academic experience at the cutting edge of large-scale robotics, our team is rapidly translating this expertise into real-world deployments with industry leaders in a trillion-dollar market.

Our Rooftop Autonomous Control Kit (RACK) integrates sensing, compute, communication, and networking into a manufacturer-agnostic solution that works across a wide range of construction machines. We operate at the intersection of hardware, software, and real-world deployment, and we're growing fast.

About The Role

We're building out our US field team and looking for a hands-on Field Robotics Engineer to be part of it from the ground up. You'll own the end-to-end technical execution of customer deployments across the Americas, from initial site assessment through live operations, and work directly with R&D and Operations to continuously sharpen how we plan, test, and deliver.

This is not a desk job. You'll be on-site, getting systems to perform in real-world conditions, troubleshooting integrated robotic systems under pressure, and serving as the trusted technical face of Gravis to our customers. If you want to see your work move dirt, this is the role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical execution of customer deployment projects from start to handover
  • Own end-to-end technical planning, coordination, and follow-up in close collaboration with Operations
  • Serve as a trusted technical point of contact for customers throughout the deployment lifecycle
  • Provide hands-on technical support and guidance to customers and end users
  • Perform regular system testing to ensure reliability, robustness, and performance
  • Generate performance reports and work with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues quickly
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of deployment processes, tooling, and best practices

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (or equivalent experience) in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience deploying, integrating, and debugging robotic software systems
  • Experience with the ROS ecosystem
  • Solid Linux proficiency and fluency with Git or similar version control
  • Programming skills in C++ and Python
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites, including domestically and internationally depending on project needs
  • Valid US driver's license
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Additional Beneficial Skills

  • Hands-on mechanical or electronics experience (hardware assembly, basic soldering)
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN
  • Previous customer project or technical project management experience
  • Practical experience repairing vehicles, machinery, bicycles, or electronics
  • Experience operating or working with construction or agricultural machinery

Location & Travel

This role is US-based with frequent travel to deployment sites across the Americas. You'll get real exposure to customer environments from day one. You'll also spend several weeks at our headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, at the start, embedded with our engineering, product, and operations teams to deeply understand our technology and culture before heading into the field.

Don't meet every requirement? If you're enthusiastic about this role but your experience doesn't match every qualification, we still encourage you to apply. You might be the perfect candidate for this or other positions.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and versatile team and to be part of a young startup that is revolutionizing heavy construction. Gravis Robotics offers a competitive salary and the opportunity to work on problems with real global impact.
