Position Overview
KODA Technologies is seeking an
FPGA Software Engineerto support the Orion spacecraft, NASA's crewed exploration vehicle designed to take humans to the Moon and beyond.
This engineer will contribute to the design, development, and verification of FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array)-based systems that support avionics, data handling, communications, and fault management subsystems. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to implement hardware-accelerated logic, integrate flight software interfaces, and contribute to verification and validation efforts in a mission-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, simulate, and implement FPGA-based designs for flight-critical systems using VHDL or Verilog
- Integrate FPGA logic with embedded flight software and spacecraft systems
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and software engineers to develop interface requirements and timing constraints
- Create testbenches and perform simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis
- Support lab testing, hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) environments, and formal verification campaigns
- Document architecture, implementation, and verification artifacts for flight certification

Contribute to FPGA/ASIC design processes
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
- Experience in FPGA design using VHDL or Verilog
- Experience with FPGA toolchains such as Vivado, Quartus, Synplify, or ModelSim
- Understanding of digital design fundamentals, including state machines, timing closure, and bus protocols (e.g., AXI, SPI, I2C)
- Familiarity with simulation and verification tools and processes
- Working knowledge of embedded systems and software-hardware integration

U.S. Citizenship
- Experience in spaceflight systems or high-reliability aerospace applications
- Familiarity with DO-254 (Design Assurance Guidance for Airborne Electronic Hardware)
- Experience with Radiation-Hardened (Rad-Hard) FPGA design
- Prior work with Xilinx (AMD), Microsemi, or Intel (Altera) FPGAs
- Lab experience with hardware bring-up, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG interfaces
- Understanding of fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR) systems
- Familiarity with real-time software and RTOS environments

What we're looking for
At embedd.it, we power hardware-software integration in embedded devices. We turn fragmented semiconductor chip data into configurable digital twins, then deterministically generate code, tests, and documentation – making integration faster, cheaper, and resilient to supply chain shocks.
We’re looking for a true legend – someone with abstract thinking and deep expertise in low-level software development. You’ll build vendor-agnostic tooling for MCU and peripheral integration to solve hardware-software integration once and for all. We work at the intersection of embedded systems, code generation, compilers, and machine learning. It’s your chance to help redefine how low-level development is done.
Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture of the driver structures and system layout
- Define scalable patterns for cross-architectural integration across bare-metal, Zephyr, Linux, and other environments
- Deconstruct complex SoC device trees and translate hardware descriptions into structured internal models for automated reasoning
- Partner with the ML team to shape data and annotation models for AI-driven data-extraction tooling
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems development, including bare-metal and RTOS-based systems
- Proficiency in C/C++
- Familiarity with firmware configuration, SoC bring-up, and system-level debugging
- Hands-on experience with code generation tools, or low-level compiler/decompiler/emulator technologies
- Strong background in embedded toolchains: compilers, linkers, debuggers, and build systems
- Python or scripting for automation and tooling is a plus
- Experience with functional-safety standards is a plus
