Job Description

FPGA DSP Engineer Hybrid Working Cambridge Based

An exciting opportunity to join a company developing next-generation wireless analysis and measurement platforms used by some of the world's leading engineering teams to develop, test and debug advanced wireless technologies.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone with a strong background in FPGA development and digital signal processing who enjoys solving challenging wireless communications problems. You'll work as part of an experienced multidisciplinary team developing sophisticated software-defined radio (SDR) platforms, contributing to the design and implementation of high-performance signal processing systems.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Developing DSP algorithms and FPGA implementations for SDR-based wireless platforms
  • Designing and implementing digital communication building blocks, including:
  • Synchronisation and tracking algorithms
  • Channel estimation and equalisation
  • Modulation and demodulation chains
  • FFT and digital filtering
  • Forward error correction (FEC)
  • Developing FPGA designs using Verilog and/or VHDL
  • Working alongside RF, embedded software and hardware engineers to deliver complete wireless systems
  • Optimising designs for performance, latency and efficient FPGA resource utilisation
  • Contributing to product development from concept through to deployment
  • Helping investigate and solve complex real-world wireless engineering challenges

What We're Looking For

  • Commercial experience developing FPGA designs using Verilog and/or VHDL
  • Good understanding of digital signal processing and digital communications
  • Experience working with Software Defined Radio (SDR) or wireless communication systems
  • Knowledge of modem signal processing, filtering or digital communication algorithms
  • Comfortable working across hardware and software boundaries within multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • A practical approach to problem solving and debugging complex systems

Desirable Experience

Any of the following would be beneficial, but are not essential:

  • Xilinx FPGA devices and Vivado toolchain
  • C++, Python or MATLAB
  • Experience with RF systems or wireless communications
  • Bluetooth or other wireless protocol experience
  • Embedded systems development
  • Digital communications standards or modem implementation

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging products that combine FPGA development, DSP and software-defined radio in a collaborative engineering environment. You'll be involved in building sophisticated wireless instrumentation used by engineers at the forefront of wireless technology, with the chance to broaden your skills across multiple disciplines.

The company is open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, and the role can be shaped around the successful applicant's experience and strengths.

Location: Cambridge (Hybrid)

Salary: £80,000 - £100,000 + Benefits
