Job Description

About Axonne

Axonne is a fabless semiconductor startup building Advanced Automotive Ethernet silicon for next-generation vehicles. Our PHY transceivers and Ethernet bridges move data from 1G to 10G over a single twisted pair or coax, connecting cameras, RADAR, and LiDAR into the zonal networks that ADAS and autonomous platforms run on.

We are US-based, with ASIC R&D in Silicon Valley and System Engineering in Hamburg and Karlsruhe. Our team is responsible for software solutions based in Bucharest, Romania.

Position Overview

We are looking for an Embedded Software Test Engineer to help validate the firmware running on our next-generation Automotive Ethernet devices. You will test real firmware on real hardware: writing and running tests, automating them in Python, and working side by side with the firmware team to catch issues early. This is a hands-on role — expect lab benches, evaluation boards, debuggers, and scripts rather than paperwork.

What you will work on

  • Test embedded firmware features on our Automotive Ethernet SoCs, on real hardware setups in the lab.
  • Write and execute functional, integration, and regression tests based on product requirements.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests in Python, and help integrate them into our CI pipeline.
  • Set up and maintain test benches: evaluation boards, cabling, instruments, and supporting tooling.
  • Reproduce and analyze failures, narrow down root causes, and report clear, actionable bugs to the firmware team.
  • Document test cases, procedures, and results so they are easy to follow and repeat.
  • Participate in requirement and feature reviews to help make features testable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in software testing, embedded software, or hardware/software validation.
  • Good Python skills, ideally used for test automation or tooling. You will build and extend our test automation framework, not just write one-off scripts.
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems and comfort working directly with hardware (boards, serial consoles, debuggers).
  • Working knowledge of Git.
  • Comfortable in Linux-based environments.
  • Curiosity, attention to detail, and clear communication.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with CI systems (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (Ethernet, TCP/IP) or Automotive Ethernet.
  • Experience with C/C++ and unit test frameworks (e.g., GoogleTest).
  • Familiarity with RTOS-based systems.
  • Exposure to automotive development processes (V-model, requirements traceability) or ISTQB certification.

What we offer

  • Work on our own semiconductor product, from silicon to software — not outsourcing, not legacy maintenance.
  • Hands-on exposure to the full stack: SoC, firmware, test hardware, and cutting-edge Automotive Ethernet technology.
  • A small team with real ownership — what you test ships in the chip.
  • A fast-growing domain: in-vehicle networking for connected and software-defined vehicles.

Axonne is an equal-opportunity employer. We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
