Job Description

Embedded Software Engineer - Industrial Systems (Contract, Onsite Netherlands)

Role type: Contract, with a strong path to a permanent hire

Location: Onsite, North of the Netherlands

Rate: Up to €100 per hour, depending on experience

About the Client

An established manufacturer of high-precision dosing equipment for the industrial sector, with systems used in industrial facilities worldwide. Software sits at the core of how these physical systems perform, controlling machines, materials, and processes in demanding real-world environments. This is a hands-on role for engineers who want to work close to hardware, not just abstract layers.

Project / Role Overview

You'll join a small, multidisciplinary R&D team where software, systems, mechanical engineering, and product support work closely together. The team is strengthening and evolving a proven, in-production system while laying the groundwork for a future modular, distributed architecture. Engineering decisions here have a direct and visible impact on products already operating in the field.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain embedded software that interacts directly with hardware, sensors, and motion control

Support and improve systems that must perform reliably under real industrial conditions

Contribute to an existing monolithic platform while helping shape its evolution toward modular, microcontroller-driven architecture

Work with Linux-based embedded systems and the Qt framework for GUI and control logic

Apply AI tooling to support development, testing, and system insight where useful

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in embedded software development
  • Background in industrial automation, controls, or hardware-related environments
  • Strong experience with Linux-based embedded systems
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and Python
  • Confidence working in and improving existing and legacy codebases
  • A hands-on, curious mindset with a drive to keep learning

Nice to Have

  • Experience with C# and Qt
  • Experience applying AI in software development (automation, scripting, AI agents)
  • Interest in architectural evolution and system design

Interview Process

Two stages: an initial technical conversation followed by an onsite meeting with the R&D team.
