ASEM (Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia) is a national initiative launched in November 2023 under the Malaysia IC Design Park, aligned with the National Semiconductor Strategy and led by the Ministry of Economy with strong support from the Selangor State Government and SIDEC. Its mission is to help transform Malaysia’s semiconductor sector from “Made in Malaysia” to “Made by Malaysia,” by advancing local capabilities in product design, prototyping, and production. ASEM provides industry stakeholders with access to advanced resources including EDA tools, testing infrastructure, IP assets, MPW services, talent development programs, and the Selangor Semiconductor Fund. Through partnerships with leading global institutions and collaborations with numerous local universities, industry partners, and key foundries, ASEM drives academic cooperation, research, and talent development across the semiconductor ecosystem.

About The Program

The Embedded Systems Engineer Apprenticeship Program equips graduates with the knowledge and practical experience to design, develop, and integrate embedded hardware and software. Participants will explore the complete embedded systems development lifecycle, from electronic hardware fundamentals to connected applications, preparing them to develop intelligent products for real-world applications.


The program equips aspiring engineers with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to contribute to the development of intelligent, connected electronic systems.


Program Structure

The program consists of 1 month of intensive technical training followed by 3 months of On-the-Job Training (OJT) with a company.


During the training phase at ASEM, Cyberjaya, you will gain practical exposure to:

  • Electronics Instrumentation & Measurement
  • Signal Conditioning with Operational Amplifiers
  • Practical Layout and Routing of Mixed-Signal PCBs
  • C Programming for Engineers
  • Embedded C Workshop
  • Efficient Implementation of DSP Algorithms with C
  • Introduction to Linux – Command Line Power
  • Bluetooth Low Energy Communication with Embedded Linux
  • IoT Communication Protocols and Data Formats
  • Data Storage and Access with MySQL and PHP
  • Developing Realtime, Interactive Webpages

  • During the OJT phase , you will work alongside experienced engineers, applying your technical knowledge to real ASIC development projects while gaining valuable industry experience.


    Responsibilities

    As an Embedded Systems apprentice, you will:

    • Design and develop embedded system solutions.
    • Integrate hardware and software components into complete embedded systems.
    • Configure communication interfaces and peripheral devices.
    • Test, troubleshoot, and optimise embedded system performance.
    • Support system integration, verification, and deployment activities.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver embedded solutions.
