Job Description

Job Overview

Plan A Technologies is looking for a highly skilled Embedded C++ Software Engineer to design, develop, and optimize software for our hardware platforms. You will be responsible for bridging the gap between high-level application logic and low-level hardware abstraction. The ideal candidate thrives in resource-constrained environments where memory management, latency, and power consumption are critical.

Please note: you must have at least 3+ years of hands-on experience using Modern C++ (11 or later) in a production embedded environment to be considered for this role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY

  • Design modular, maintainable, and efficient C++ code for embedded systems.
  • Write and maintain drivers for peripherals (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB).
  • Profile and optimize code for CPU utilization, memory footprint, and power efficiency.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to bring up new PCBA prototypes and debug hardware/software interfaces.
  • Integrate RTOS or Embedded Linux components with custom application logic.

Experience

  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years in software engineering with a primary focus on embedded systems.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience using Modern C++ (11 or later) in a production embedded environment.
  • Deep understanding of interrupts, DMA, timers, and memory-mapped I/O.
  • Experience with ARM Cortex-M/R/A series, ESP32, or similar architectures.
  • Experience with FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX, or Yocto/Embedded Linux.
  • Proficiency with GDB, JTAG/SWD debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Familiarity with CMake, Git, and CI/CD pipelines for embedded targets.
  • Experience with Embedded C++ Core Guidelines (avoiding RTTI/exceptions where necessary).
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) or control systems.
  • Understanding of security protocols (TLS, Secure Boot, Cryptography) in embedded contexts.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Initiative and drive to do great things.
