Your home base will be distributed measurement and communications, PLC-based control and local asset integration. Your assignment will be to build the systems that connect Primrock’s central energy-management platform with batteries, load banks, charging systems and flexible customer installations.
We are looking for a midfielder: someone with real depth in embedded systems and industrial control, but also the ability to work across software, network communications, measurement, power systems, testing and physical asset integration.

Expand our portfolio from selected ancillary services to the full stack of Nordic capacity and energy-activation markets.
Establish automated participation in the Nord Pool day-ahead and intraday markets.
Dynamically allocate limited asset capacity between ancillary services, electricity trading and local customer obligations.
Develop methods for maintaining the endurance and operating readiness of energy-limited assets.
Build scalable Capacity-as-a-Service and Quality-as-a-Service solutions for commercial and industrial customers.
Connect central optimization with standardized distributed measurement, communications and PLC-based control.
Your work will make this agenda executable in physical assets.
About the team
Primrock is building a compact development team around five to six high-capacity experts with overlapping capabilities — from distributed measurement and physical control, through operational data, forecasting and optimization, to trading, execution and settlement. Each person will have a clear home position, but nobody will work in isolation.
Primrock’s founders will remain directly involved in the development work. We will continue to frame the principal problems, set priorities, contribute market, commercial and operational knowledge, review proposed solutions and work closely with the team as the platform is developed.
About the role
Your focus will be distributed measurement and communications, PLC-based control and the integration of flexible energy assets.
You will design and implement the local systems that measure the physical state of an asset, communicate its available capability, receive schedules and dispatch instructions and execute those instructions safely and predictably.
The local system must provide reliable high-frequency measurement, support rapid response to market and system-operator instructions and protect the asset and customer operation when data, equipment, communications or central services fail.
You will work with batteries, power-conversion systems, load banks, power meters, charging systems, protective equipment, industrial gateways and customer installations. You will connect these systems to Primrock’s central scheduling, optimization, trading, validation and settlement functions.
You will work across the complete local technology stack: requirements, architecture, measurement, communication protocols, control logic, testing, commissioning, fault management and continuous operation.
The objective is not to develop a separate bespoke solution for every site. It is to establish reusable modules, standard interfaces, configurable control logic and repeatable testing methods that can be deployed across different assets, markets and customer applications.
What you will do
Design the distributed measurement, communications and control architecture used at Primrock’s battery, load-bank and customer sites.
Develop reusable PLC function blocks, state machines and control sequences for dispatch, frequency regulation, ramping, capacity limitation, load management, controlled shutdown, restart and recovery.
Implement local validation of central schedules and dispatch instructions so that commands are executed only within the safe and currently available operating envelope of the asset.
Integrate power meters, sensors, battery-management systems, power-conversion systems, inverters, chargers, load banks, protective relays, gateways and other industrial equipment.
Develop and maintain interfaces using technologies such as Modbus TCP or RTU, OPC UA, MQTT, REST APIs, VPN connections, OpenADR and other relevant industrial, customer or DSO protocols.
Establish reliable high-frequency measurement, time synchronization, data buffering, event logging, alarm handling and transfer of operational data to Primrock’s central systems.
Translate TSO, DSO, customer and contractual requirements into measurement functions, control logic, communication interfaces, test cases and acceptance criteria.
Contribute to technical prequalification of assets for Nordic ancillary services.
Develop standard physical and logical interfaces for Capacity-as-a-Service and Quality-as-a-Service customers, including control boundaries, operating priorities, manual override and fail-safe behavior.
Develop diagnostics, health monitoring, alarm classifications and recovery procedures that support reliable 24/7 operation and efficient management of faults.
Establish secure methods for remote access, configuration management, software deployment, version control, updates and recovery.
Build prototypes and test environments and contribute to software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop and controlled field testing.
Participate in commissioning, troubleshooting and performance verification at Primrock and customer sites.
Work with our data scientists to understand how measurements are generated, validated and interpreted and how communication delays or equipment faults affect operational data.
Work with our applied scientists to ensure that optimization models and central decisions reflect actual asset capability, local response times, control constraints and physical operating limits.
Work with our platform engineers to ensure site systems integrate cleanly with central dispatch, validation and settlement.
Document interfaces, parameter sets, network configurations, control sequences, software versions, operating modes, test procedures and known limitations.
Who we are looking for
You have a Master’s degree in Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or another relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
You have practical experience with embedded systems, industrial automation, PLC programming or distributed control systems.
Experience with IEC 61131-3 languages, particularly Structured Text, is highly relevant.
You have worked with one or more industrial automation platforms such as Beckhoff, CODESYS, Siemens, ABB or an equivalent environment.
You understand industrial communications and can diagnose problems across physical signals, devices, protocols, networks, software and control logic.
You understand the importance of deterministic behavior, state management, interlocks, watchdogs, time synchronization, logging, configuration control and safe recovery.
Experience with industrial Ethernet, VPNs, certificates, cybersecurity, remote software deployment or fleet management is valuable.
You can move between architecture and implementation. You are willing to write the control logic, inspect the network traffic, test the measured response and troubleshoot the installation on site.
You communicate professionally in English. Professional working proficiency in Swedish is a strong advantage because the role includes site work, documentation and interaction with Swedish counterparties.
Most importantly, you combine engineering depth with practical judgment and collaborative ability. You understand that a technically elegant local controller is not sufficient unless it works with the data, optimization, trading and operational systems around it.

The position is full-time and based at Primrock’s office at Ideon Science Park in Lund.
This is an on-site role and is not offered as a remote or hybrid position. The role also includes work at operational, development and customer sites.
