Position Overview

The Staff Firmware Engineer serves as a senior technical contributor within the R&D organization, leading the design and development of embedded firmware solutions across the product lifecycle. This individual will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into robust, scalable, and secure firmware architectures while driving technical excellence, continuous improvement, and engineering best practices.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in embedded systems development, strong technical leadership capabilities, and a passion for building high-quality products that solve real-world challenges.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in Agile Scrum teams, delivering firmware solutions for embedded systems and connected devices.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to gather, define, and prioritize business, customer, and technical requirements.
  • Develop and maintain design documentation, engineering specifications, and technical reference materials.
  • Architect scalable, reusable firmware solutions using modern object-oriented design principles.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Drive continuous improvement of firmware development processes, tools, and engineering practices.
  • Provide technical leadership through mentorship, design reviews, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate across engineering, product management, manufacturing, quality, and customer-facing teams to ensure successful product outcomes.
  • Support technical decision-making and resolution of complex engineering challenges.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
  • 10+ years of technical leadership experience in a senior engineering capacity.
  • Strong expertise in C++ and/or Rust development.
  • Experience with object-oriented software architecture and design.
  • Experience developing applications within Embedded Linux environments.
  • Proven experience gathering, documenting, and managing technical requirements.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies, Scrum frameworks, and backlog management.
  • Experience with source control, defect tracking, and software lifecycle management tools.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and collaborate with hardware engineering teams.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure software development practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineers.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Scrum Master and/or Product Owner certification.
  • Experience with C programming.
  • Expertise with tools such as Git, Jira, Jama, DevSuite, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Qt development.
  • Linux kernel and device driver development experience.
  • ARM-based SoC firmware design experience.
  • Experience developing TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or other communication protocols.
  • Exposure to AI/ML technologies and their practical application within embedded systems.
