Job Summary:

We are seeking a self-motivated Senior Electrical Engineer who will work as a hands-on individual contributor and is eager to expand their technical knowledge while developing complex digital hardware systems. In this role, you will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams designing, developing, integrating, and verifying advanced digital hardware, PCB assemblies, and embedded electronics for sophisticated imaging and sensing systems. You will contribute to the development of next-generation thermal imaging and surveillance products used in demanding defense and security applications. These applications include multi-processor and FPGA-based systems, image-processing hardware, battery-powered and low-power electronics, embedded hardware platforms, and other advanced digital electronics technologies. This position provides the opportunity to take hardware designs from concept through production while collaborating with Software, Mechanical, Systems, FPGA, and Manufacturing Engineering teams in a highly technical product development environment.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Product Management and Business Development to help define new products and technology roadmaps.
  • Translate project and system requirements into well-defined hardware architectures, digital hardware designs, and board-level implementations.
  • Design and develop complex printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies incorporating embedded processors, FPGA devices, memory architectures, and high-speed digital interfaces.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Software, Mechanical, Systems, FPGA, Test, and Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Perform schematic capture, support PCB layout reviews, and ensure designs meet performance, manufacturability, and reliability requirements.
  • Perform hands-on bring-up, integration, debug, validation, and testing of prototype and production hardware.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot hardware issues in laboratory environments.
  • Support signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC, and design-for-manufacturing activities throughout product development.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, design specifications, test procedures, and manufacturing release packages.
  • Support new product introduction and transition into production.
  • Solve complex technical problems with limited direction, contribute to requirements development, evaluate tradeoffs, and propose effective technical solutions.
  • Lead technical tasks involving multiple cross-functional stakeholders and effectively communicate status, risks, and recommendations to project leadership and customers.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to hardware design processes, product reliability, and engineering best practices.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field strongly preferred.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in digital hardware design, embedded electronics, or PCB design and development.
  • Strong experience designing high-speed digital circuit boards and complex hardware systems.
  • Experience with embedded processors, memory architectures, and high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR3/DDR4, Ethernet, 1553, SERDES, Aurora, UART, MIPI, or similar technologies.
  • Experience designing FPGA-based hardware platforms utilizing AMD/Xilinx device families including Artix, Kintex, UltraScale, Zynq 7000, and Zynq MPSoC architectures.
  • Experience with hardware architecture development, schematic capture, PCB layout review, and product development activities.
  • Thorough understanding of digital electronics, high-speed digital design, and embedded hardware design principles.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC, and board-level design best practices.
  • Experience integrating, debugging, and validating hardware systems in laboratory environments.
  • Ability to write detailed technical specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Experience with Altium Designer schematic and PCB layout tools preferred.
  • Experience with AMD/Xilinx FPGA and SoC development tools is a plus.
  • Experience with thermal imaging, EO/IR systems, image-processing hardware, defense electronics, or related sensing technologies is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
