About The Role
We are expanding our drone delivery team and seeking passionate engineers eager to leverage unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology to reimagine logistics. This role involves developing and deploying sophisticated systems in real-world environments, transforming innovative ideas into practical, scalable solutions. As a key member of the team, you will design and implement software for advanced drone hardware, focusing on autonomous flight capabilities and delivery operations. The position reports directly to Engineering Management within DoorDash Labs, offering an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of drone technology and robotics innovation.
You will be responsible for building applications that operate on real-time robotic platforms, integrating multiple sensors and actuators, and developing algorithms for perception, navigation, and control. Collaboration with backend and infrastructure teams will be essential to ensure a seamless drone delivery ecosystem. Additionally, staying updated with the latest advancements in drone and robotics technology will be crucial to maintaining innovative solutions that meet industry standards and safety regulations.
Qualifications

A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.

Minimum of 5+ years of industry experience in software development for robotics or autonomous systems.

Proficiency in C/C++ and Python programming languages.

Experience working with ROS/ROS 2 (Robot Operating System).

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and deploy software for advanced drone hardware, enabling autonomous flight and delivery operations.

Build applications that interface with drone sensors and actuators, ensuring real-time performance and reliability.

Develop and integrate algorithms for onboard perception, sensor fusion, state estimation, and control using data from IMU, GPS, cameras, lidar, and other sensors.

Utilize ROS/ROS 2 to create modular robotic applications for navigation, obstacle avoidance, and payload management.

Implement communication protocols to facilitate seamless data exchange between drones, ground control stations, and cloud backend systems.
