Job Title: Software Engineer, Embedded OS

Location: Cary, NC 27513 (100% Onsite)

Contract Duration: 12 Months Contract with possibility of Extension

Shift Structure: First Shift | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday

Pay Rate: $56.00 - $62.00/hr on W2 (USC/GC)

Assessment Requirement: A Glider technical assessment (Assessment ID: John_Deere-19717971) will be conducted during the screening process.

Visa Sponsorship: Not available now or in the near future (Strictly open to USC/GC candidates only).

Job Description: Our client, a global pioneer in advanced technology and precision industrial machinery, is seeking two talented Software Engineers to join their Embedded OS and Developer Enablement team in Cary, NC. In this specialized role, you will not just write standard firmware, but will build, innovate, and maintain the next generation of custom development tools and internal scripts that empower the company’s entire global embedded engineering community. Operating within an OpenRTOS-based embedded environment , you will bridge low-level firmware architecture with modern object-oriented software applications, driving developer efficiency from initial requirements through final machine validation.

Key ResponsResponsibilities:

  • Developer Tooling Innovation: Support and develop advanced internal tools, modules, and execution scripts designed to optimize developer workflow efficiency and user experience across global embedded product groups.
  • Embedded Software Design: Write and maintain robust, high-availability source code utilizing an expert-level understanding of C programming alongside object-oriented principles.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Provide daily user technical support, coordinate feature releases, and maintain strong alignment with internal cross-functional engineering teams.
  • System Validation Tracking: Follow the complete lifecycle of embedded software infrastructure—translating raw functional requirements into automated test parameters and machine-level validation routines.
  • Technical Documentation: Maintain complex engineering specifications, code architectures, and developer-facing documentation to a high enterprise standard.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience: 3+ years of dedicated professional software engineering experience focused on low-level system interactions, automation scripting, or firmware developer pipelines.
  • Programming Core: High proficiency in standard object-oriented development languages (C++, C#, or Java) paired with an absolute core expertise in C .
  • Embedded Lifecycle: Solid understanding of the complete embedded software development workflow (from hardware interface layers up to software deployment frameworks).
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills; proven success handling daily developer support and collaborative design reviews.
  • Education: Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.

Stand-Out Skills (Preferred):

  • Hands-on script execution experience utilizing GNU Make architectures and Python automation modules.
  • Familiarity with heavy equipment vehicle communications, specifically Controller Area Network ( CAN ) infrastructures and Unified Diagnostic Services ( UDS ).
  • Experience working inside a mature, Agile software product delivery framework.
