Job Description

Software Engineer – Embedded/Driver Development (Contract)

Location: Austin, TX (onsite)

Type: Contract – $64–$69/hr

Must be US Citizen


About the Role

Our client, a leading technology company specializing in test and measurement solutions, is seeking an experienced Software Engineer for embedded and driver software products. As part of a product team, you'll collaborate with product architects, product managers, and other engineers to implement designs in an agile/scrum environment.


Responsibilities

  • Deliver product features through research, design, development, and documentation
  • Collaborate with team members and leaders on design discussions and code architecture
  • Specify, design, and implement new product features
  • Troubleshoot product defects and resolve them with the team
  • Develop tests to ensure high code quality and catch regressions
  • Peer review code changes submitted by teammates
  • Participate in standups, backlog reviews, retrospectives, and brainstorming sessions
  • Explore and apply new technologies to improve infrastructure and processes


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Object-oriented programming with proficiency in C++
  • Strong understanding of software design and computer architecture, including operating system components, embedded/kernel/low-level hardware-software integration, and data structures
  • Experience with Agile methodology and testing frameworks
  • Strong experience with user mode and kernel mode driver development
  • Windows driver development, with hands-on debugging and performance analysis
  • Proficient in systems-level, performance-sensitive C++


Preferred

  • Linux driver development, including kernel modules and device interfaces
  • LabVIEW experience, especially in test, validation, or hardware integration contexts
  • Familiarity with Python scripting for automation, tooling, or validation
