Atom Computing is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Quantum Compilers who has a passion for writing quantum software and at least 3 years of post-degree professional experience to build quantum developer tools to enable our customers to seamlessly access our quantum computers and accelerate the development of our next-generation products. In this role, which will report to the Manager of Runtimes and Compilers, you’ll work with a collegial and talented team of engineers and physicists to make your mark on the future of computing.
Candidates will be considered for Atom's location in Berkeley, CA or Boulder, CO. Under exceptional circumstances we may allow the position to be fully remote.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop intermediate representations, compilation/transpilation tools and optimizations, and quantum algorithm development tools.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define feature requirements and roadmaps for a full-stack quantum operation system

Work closely with our Quantum Applications Engineers, Quantum Theorists, Quantum Engineers, and Control Systems Engineers to write idiomatic, well-tested, well-documented, maintainable, and extensible code for executing experiments and algorithms on our quantum hardware
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field
- A PhD in Physics or a related STEM field is welcome, but not required

At least 3 years of post-degree professional experience in software engineering or scientific computation
- Must have previous experience developing software for quantum computers in industry and/or academia and a solid grasp of quantum computing and quantum information concepts
- Previous experience in one or more of the following: developing compiler internals, runtimes, or programming languages; familiarity with compiler infrastructure tools such as LLVM or MLIR; a quantum programming framework such as Qiskit, Cirq, or Pennylane, and OpenQASM
- Coding proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, and Rust
- Documented ability to translate research results into functional production code
- Ability to effectively collaborate with software developers, physicists, and engineers in complementary disciplines.
- Temperamentally suited to work at a fast-growing, early-stage startup: self-motivated, humble, driven, collaborative, and with a high tolerance for ambiguity and uncertainty
- Familiarity with Git version control, automated testing, and software development best practices

Willingness to learn atomic, optical, laser physics, and quantum mechanics concepts as required to put work in context
The base salary range for this position is between $140,000 - $185,000, commensurate with experience. In addition to salary, we offer an annual bonus and equity in the company.

At embedd.it, we power hardware-software integration in embedded devices. We turn fragmented semiconductor chip data into configurable digital twins, then deterministically generate code, tests, and documentation – making integration faster, cheaper, and resilient to supply chain shocks.
We’re looking for a true legend – someone with abstract thinking and deep expertise in low-level software development. You’ll build vendor-agnostic tooling for MCU and peripheral integration to solve hardware-software integration once and for all. We work at the intersection of embedded systems, code generation, compilers, and machine learning. It’s your chance to help redefine how low-level development is done.
Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture of the driver structures and system layout
- Define scalable patterns for cross-architectural integration across bare-metal, Zephyr, Linux, and other environments
- Deconstruct complex SoC device trees and translate hardware descriptions into structured internal models for automated reasoning
- Partner with the ML team to shape data and annotation models for AI-driven data-extraction tooling
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems development, including bare-metal and RTOS-based systems
- Proficiency in C/C++
- Familiarity with firmware configuration, SoC bring-up, and system-level debugging
- Hands-on experience with code generation tools, or low-level compiler/decompiler/emulator technologies
- Strong background in embedded toolchains: compilers, linkers, debuggers, and build systems
- Python or scripting for automation and tooling is a plus
- Experience with functional-safety standards is a plus
