Job Description

QuNorth is looking for a Senior Quantum Research Use-Case Developer to assist researchers in Academia in not only identifying and quantifying quantum-relevant computational workloads that could advance their research goals and/or provide scientific insight, but also facilitating the establishment of any requisite partnerships with algorithm providers and/or other university researchers for the (co)-development, implementation, and scaling of the quantum-native solutions on Magne.

QuNorth is a new Nordic Hub for quantum exploration, providing the region’s enterprises, researchers, and startups with the capability to test, learn, and build on Magne, a world‑leading Level 2 quantum computer.

With strong backing from EIFO and the Novo Nordisk Foundation, QuNorth will operate Magne as a shared platform for Nordic industries, research organisations, and start-ups. Our aim is to provide the access, tools and support needed to explore new quantum applications across all relevant areas including, but not limited to, life science, innovative materials, and biochemistry.

We are a small and committed team working to build QuNorth from the ground up as a reliable and transparent organization that contributes to the long‑term strength of the Nordic quantum computing ecosystem.

The Role:

As Senior Quantum Research Use-Case Developer for Academia, your primary focus will be to first identify and then assist these users on starting (or continuing, as the case may be) their quantum computing journey by exploiting the unique resources and capabilities of both Magne and the QuNorth organization.

More specifically, the salient aspects of the role will include :

  • Identifying relevant users based on an analysis of the quantum computing-relevant characteristics of the computational workloads specific for a given research field or topic.
  • Subsequently engaging with the users to both validate potential cases and determine the anticipated (quantum computing) resource requirements and associated timelines.
  • Facilitating and coordinating engagement with the relevant collaborators and co-developers (as required) for crafting the solutions and the specific algorithms to be run on Magne.
  • Collaborating and liaising with the CTO team at all stages in relation to implementation on Magne.
  • Ownership of the pipeline, from initial contact to implementation.

Your Experience and Qualifications:

  • Direct experience (preferably several years) with mapping a research objective to a quantum object (Hamiltonian, oracle etc.) from similar roles within the field of quantum computing, ideally from an Academic/Research environment, but not necessarily so.  In addition, experience with resource estimation and circuit engineering is also required.
  • Direct experience (again, preferably several years) with running jobs on quantum-native hardware and interpreting the results.
  • Broad understanding of multiple research areas and the nature and limitations of best-in-class the classical compute solutions typically utilized in each area.
  • Experience with multi-stakeholder environments such as Academia and start-ups.
  • An advanced degree (preferably at Ph.D. level) in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field is mandatory.
  • Practical experience using AI tools such as large language models, coding assistants, literature tools, agentic workflows, or AI-enabled analysis environments.
  • Personal Qualifications: Collaborative, adaptable, and hands-on; excellent communication skills; thrive in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; proficiency in at least one Nordic language is a plus.

The team:

The position is based in our new offices at Rønnegade 6 in Copenhagen, where we are also installing Magne. You will be part of the Product team under the CPO but will interact closely with the Technology team under the CTO.

Like many start-ups, we are building QuNorth as we go. You will join a very entrepreneurial team, driven by curiosity about the technology, but also a desire to make an impact while working in a fun and engaging workplace, something that, as an early employee, you will be an important part of building.

What we offer:

A unique opportunity to be part of standing up and operating a quantum computing company with strong backers, in modern offices located centrally in the Innovation District Copenhagen with convenient public transport and lunch service.

Comprehensive remuneration package, including benefits that support an environment where people can grow and do their best work.

Application and contact:

If you wish to know more about the position, please reach out to Cathal Mahon, CPO at QuNorth, at [email protected] and/or +45 2099 6312.

Please apply (resume and coverletter) via LinkedIn using the Easy apply function by August 8th at the latest: please know we will be reviewing applications on an ongoing basis.
