Job Description

Sr Power Electronics Hardware Engineer

We are looking for a Sr Power Electronics Hardware Engineer with 4–10 years of experience in power electronics hardware engineering, designing SiC-based motor drives and DC/DC converters through bring-up.

Seniority

  • 4–10 years of experience in power electronics hardware engineering, designing SiC-based motor drives and DC/DC converters through bring-up

Work Experience

  • Has personally designed a SiC-MOSFET inverter or DC/DC converter from schematic through bench bring-up — not a support or validation role
  • Background from automotive EV or defense/aerospace startup — not a large prime like Boeing or Northrop
  • Experience delivering power electronics hardware to aerospace, eVTOL, or defense programs (DO-254/DO-160 familiarity a plus)

Education

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics — BS considered only with exceptional industry depth
  • Degree from a power electronics-focused program: Wisconsin-Madison, Purdue, Colorado Boulder, or UPenn, etc.

Hard Skills

  • Has designed a gate drive circuit from scratch for SiC devices — including isolated drivers, dv/dt management, desat protection, and PCB layout to minimize parasitic inductance
  • Hands-on PCB layout ownership for high-voltage multilayer power boards (Altium or Cadence) through fabrication — including creepage/clearance and power/signal partitioning
  • Simulation experience with PLECS, LTspice, or Saber for converter-level and device-level analysis; double-pulse testing experience a strong plus

Soft Skills

  • Can take an undefined hardware task and execute independently — no hand-holding; thrives in a deep-end environment with minimal direction

Miscellaneous

  • Must work fully on-site in Long Beach, CA — 5 days/week
