Job Description

About Verdigris

AI data centers are the most electrically volatile environments humans have ever built. Every new generation of GPU makes them harder to run — and the instruments most operators depend on were designed for a different era. Verdigris built the ones they need now: sensors that capture what electricity is actually doing at 8 kHz, sub-cycle and in real time. The operators who run on us catch failures before they surface, hold capacity closer to its true ceiling, and find headroom their infrastructure was already capable of delivering.

We are small, and we intend to stay that way. Speed and technical depth are how a team this size outruns competitors ten times our scale.

About the Edge Team

The Edge team is Verdigris’ vertically integrated IoT product organization. We own the full product lifecycle — research, design, electrical engineering, mechanical design, manufacturing, firmware development, QA, tooling, deployment, and field repair — from our office in Taipei. Edge collaborates tightly with our US-based Cloud team — together we deliver Verdigris's data platform end-to-end, from sensor to insight. The edge platform’s product owner is our CTO.

The Edge team rewards value delivered, not process followed. We support open learning — strong opinions held lightly, updated when the data warrants. We prize firmware engineers with curiosity beyond firmware: into manufacturing, test, deployment, and the tools reshaping how we build. This role joins a team growing into broader generalism and shares the agentic practices that build our AI-native foundation — bringing depth, contributing range, leveling each other up.

About the Role

You'll join our Taiwan team and own major components of Verdigris' edge firmware, from design through fleet deployment. You'll work alongside teammates across the product's full lifecycle — from concept through field operations and end-of-life. Across that lifecycle, you'll use AI tools fluently to keep shipping high-quality code and improving the product at speed. You are already at the frontier of the paradigm shift AI is driving in how engineers work, and you're constantly refining your harnessing — toward faster, sharper and reliable results.

How We Work

Our work is built on frontier Agentic AI workflows. We continuously calibrate and optimize how we harness AI — turning it from individual practice into a foundational team capability. We're looking for engineers with the domain depth to evaluate AI output and the judgment to direct AI toward meaningful results.

What You’ll Do

  • Own major components of the edge firmware — kernel, drivers, system services, update mechanisms, and cloud-facing interfaces — from design through production deployment.
  • Ship through AI-assisted workflows as your primary development method, contributing to how the team continues to evolve its practice.
  • Design and operate the fleet as one continuous responsibility. Build the observability, diagnostics, and remote-recovery systems that let a small team run thousands of devices, and stay on the hook for fleet health.
  • Lead root-cause analysis across deployed devices. Deliver fixes spanning Linux, drivers, networking, and application layers.
  • Push back on specs when you see a better path. We count on this.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of embedded systems experience, with clear ownership of production firmware in shipped hardware. Aptitude and judgment outweigh years.
  • Deep engineering experience with embedded Linux.
  • Production experience with board bring-up, BSP integration, device drivers, and performance tuning.
  • System-level engineering capability: architecting, cross-module collaboration design, test, and verification. C/C++ fluency and Python/Bash for tooling are baseline.
  • IoT edge experience with cellular and WiFi, persistent fleet connectivity, OTA updates, and secure provisioning at scale.
  • AI-assisted development is your default workflow. You bring the domain depth to evaluate AI output and the judgment to direct AI toward meaningful results — pushing AI as far as you can still own what ships.
  • Conversational fluency in English. You give and receive feedback openly — about the work, and about how you work — and you can describe a specific moment when feedback about your approach landed hard, what you did with it after the sting wore off, and what you'd do differently now.

Nice to Haves

  • Manufacturing experience — factory test strategy, fixtures, automation. Observability and reliability tooling — logging, metrics, diagnostics, remote troubleshooting.
  • Experience in networking/switch/router firmware, mobile (non-Android) embedded, or other IoT/edge device companies.
  • Open-source contributions, published work, or personal projects that show how you think.

A Note on Our Hiring Process

We use AI in parts of our hiring process, including application review and response assessment. Humans make every hiring decision. If you want to know more about how your data is handled, ask us.
