About The Role
We are building the electronics and firmware that run our electric two-wheeler platform — battery management, vehicle control, and motor control. As a Senior Firmware Engineer, your primary role is to guide the firmware team across the design, development, and testing of our safety-critical EV controllers — providing technical direction, reviewing the team’s work, and setting the engineering practices (coding standards, functional safety, test discipline) that the team builds on.
This is a leadership-first, hands-on-when-needed role: you steer architecture and quality, mentor engineers, and dive into the code or the bench yourself when a problem calls for it.
Key Responsibilities
Primary — Technical Leadership & Review
-
Guide the firmware team through the design, development, and testing of major EV controllers (BMS, VCU, or Motor Controller / MCU), providing architecture and technical direction.
-
Review designs, code, and test plans/results — enforce MISRA C compliance, ISO 26262 functional-safety practices, and a high quality bar across the team’s output.
-
Mentor and grow engineers; drive technical decisions, coding standards, and firmware process (reviews, traceability, release discipline).
-
Own the firmware architecture and the safety/diagnostics strategy — watchdogs, self-tests, plausibility checks, fault handling, and safe-state design — at the direction-setting level.
-
Collaborate with hardware, systems, and cloud/telemetry teams on end-to-end integration and cross-functional decisions.
Hands-On — As Required
-
Contribute directly to firmware when needed: prototyping, critical/complex modules, or unblocking the team.
-
Get on the bench for tough debugging — hardware bring-up and board-level issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD debuggers, and CAN analyzers.
-
Depth remains expected across embedded C on ARM Cortex-M (e.g. STM32) and/or TI C2000 (e.g. TMS320F28379x); RTOS / bare-metal architectures; and communication stacks (CAN / CAN-FD, SPI, I²C, UART, ADC, PWM).
Outcomes You Own
-
The team ships a controller’s firmware from design through validated, on-vehicle operation — with you steering direction and quality.
-
MISRA + functional-safety + test practices are established, followed, and visible in every review.
-
Fewer field/bench defects, driven by strong diagnostics, disciplined testing, and a raised review bar across the team.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
-
B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, or a related field.
-
3–5 years of hands-on automotive embedded firmware experience.
-
Demonstrated end-to-end exposure — design, development, and testing — of at least one major EV controller: BMS, VCU, or Motor Controller.
-
Strong embedded C; solid grasp of microcontroller architecture, memory, interrupts, and real-time constraints.
-
Practical experience with CAN / CAN-FD and automotive communication protocols.
-
Working knowledge of MISRA C and ISO 26262 functional safety.
-
Proficiency with embedded debugging and bench tools (JTAG/SWD, oscilloscope, logic/CAN analyzers) and version control (Git).
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
-
Motor control (FOC) and power-electronics firmware experience.
-
Battery systems knowledge — cell chemistry, AFE/battery-monitor ICs (ADBMS/LTC, BQ76xxx), SoC/SoH estimation, cell balancing.
-
Bootloaders, OTA update, and UDS / diagnostic services.
-
AUTOSAR, ASPICE, and requirements-traceability workflows.
-
Python (or similar) for test automation and tooling.
-
Experience with TI C2000 (TMS320F2837x) and STM32L4 families specifically.
About The Company
Arbor Mobility is a 2W EV start-up based out of Bengaluru, India. We at Arbor Mobility are developing a performance two-wheeler EV motorcycle. The three Co-Founders have done their Masters in Automotive Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, and have worked for various Automotive companies in India and the USA and are now determined to create something exciting in the EV space. The company was started in November, 2022 and is now rapidly expanding. We, at Arbor Mobility are trying to answer the basic question of how to increase the adoption of EVs in India. EV usage is a paradigm shift in consumer behaviour. It requires us to think how to tackle the issues such as charging, range anxiety & safety for a consumer. We at Arbor Mobility think it is essential to make it easy for the customers to switch to EVs. Hence, we have taken an innovative customer centric approach for our product development. This provides an exciting opportunity for anyone who want to join the efforts to build the future of automotive industry in India & the world.
