RAE is seeking a senior engineer to lead and execute on embedded avionics software development with RAE customers. This unique role combines aspects of technical leadership, execution, and customer management. The senior engineer will lead embedded software and HDL projects throughout the full design lifecycle while also managing customer relationships. The ideal candidate must be capable of independently managing and executing embedded avionics software projects across a wide range of hardware and software platforms.
In this position, you will:

Generate avionics software requirements and architectures

Generate avionics software test plans

Integrate with vendor-supplied board support packages

Develop application software for target hardware platforms

Stand-up software test infrastructure within the customer’s IT infrastructure

Perform software testing and summarize results for customers

Support customer software integration and debugging activities

Participate in gating design reviews. Conduct regular code reviews

Manage project schedules, scope, and priorities with customers
-
20% travel to customer sites

Participate in sales calls with the Owner

Provide technical feedback on proposals created by the Owner
Minimum qualifications:
-
Experience as a technical lead or similar on an embedded avionics software project
-
7+ years of experience developing embedded software for bare metal, Linux, or RTOS
-
Experience developing for AMD Zynq Ultrascale, Microblaze, or STM32 processors
-
Experience with low-level peripherals (SPI, I2C, UART, etc)

Experience with embedded Ethernet stacks such as LwIP

Ability to read and understand electrical schematics

Strong oral and written communication skills

Ability to work with internal or external customers to scope and define solutions
Preferred qualifications:

1-2 years of experience developing HDL for AMD, Alterra, Lattice, or similar FPGAs

Experience with one or more avionics software frameworks (fPrime, cFS, MAX)

Hands-on experience with high-speed data interfaces such as PCIe

Experience with configuring and deploying Yocto build systems

Experience deploying signal processing algorithms in image processing or radar
-
Experience developing application bootloaders or multi-stage bootloaders
