Responsibilities
· Accomplish product design and project management duties to include scheduling, concept planning and review, schedule design reviews with peers and other department individuals. Provide supervision or project coordination to ECAD personnel, designers, and technicians who assist with specific assignments.
· Analyze current and competitive technologies to determine best way to address requirements. Foster creativity and innovation in design solutions.
· Design of analog and digital circuits and the embedded firmware and software that runs on them. Perform circuit design and calculations, modeling using Spice tools, tolerance analysis, prototyping, validation, and verification testing of product designs. Schedule and perform design reviews and formal Gate (stage-gate) reviews at product development milestones, and insure consistency in design reviews, verification, and qualification efforts.
· Develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware and application software as a primary, day-to-day responsibility, writing production-quality code in C and C++ (with supporting use of Python or similar for tooling, test automation, and data analysis). Implement device drivers, real-time / RTOS-based tasks, state machines, and communication interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, and BLE / wireless), and manage source code under version control (Git) with structured code reviews and clear documentation.
· Provide sustaining support to existing products and assistance with customer and sales support requirements. Apply manufacturing process and capabilities in product design process DFM/DFT. Assist in product testing and quality plan requirements. Qualify and approve purchased component manufacturers.
· Create and oversee the release of product documentation. Perform review and approval of engineering documentation as needed.
Interface with certification agencies in product testing, verification, and validation to industry established product standards. Provide management with certification information and trends to aid in new product development or significant impacts to the business.
Qualifications
· 5- 8 years of product design and/or manufacturing experience with electronic controls, circuit design, and embedded firmware development
· Experience with both digital and analog circuit designs in an embedded control environment
· Strong electronics background and fundamentals are required, including analog and digital circuit design, microcontroller and peripheral interfacing, power supply and regulator design, signal integrity, and EMC / EMI design and compliance, with a track record of taking electronic hardware from concept through production.
· Demonstrated proficiency in embedded programming in C and C++ is required, including hands-on firmware development for microcontroller-based products. As primarily a Microchip house, experience with Microchip devices (PIC, dsPIC, AVR, and SAM / ARM Cortex-M) is preferred, along with the ability to program parts from other vendors (e.g., STM32, Renesas, Nordic). Working knowledge of real-time operating systems (e.g., FreeRTOS), bare-metal and register-level programming, interrupt handling, and communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, BLE). Comfortable with hardware bring-up and debugging using JTAG / SWD debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers, and with managing code under Git version control.
· Familiarity with design analysis, calculations, and the FMEA process in vetting a product design for safety-critical applications. Competence in the use of electronic design automation (EDA) tools for schematic capture and PCB layout, specifically Altium Designer.
· Experience using AI-assisted development tools, in particular Claude Code, is strongly preferred. At a minimum, demonstrable exposure to and a willingness to adopt AI coding assistants within the firmware and software development workflow is expected.
Familiar with Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project for project reporting and data organization
