Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Electronic Engineer to join our avionics engineering team. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across the full product lifecycle, from concept and architecture through design, integration, verification, and production support. You will play a key role in developing robust, high-reliability avionics systems while mentoring junior engineers and driving engineering best practices.

Role Description The Senior Electronic Engineer will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing electronic systems and sub-systems for Nextech’s UAV platforms. Day-to-day responsibilities include schematic and circuit design, component selection, prototyping, testing, and validation of electronic assemblies to meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards. The role involves collaborating closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams to integrate electronics into complete UAV solutions, solving complex technical issues, and supporting production and field deployments. The Senior Electronic Engineer will also contribute to design documentation, continuous improvement of design processes, and mentoring less experienced engineers. This is a full-time, on-site role based in the City of Cape Town.

Duties

Electronic Circuit Design: Design, develop, and optimize electronic circuits and systems for UAV applications, ensuring reliability and performance.

Analog Electronics: Work on analog electronic systems, including signal conditioning, filtering, and interfacing with various sensors and actuators.

PCB Design : Create and review PCB layouts, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company specifications.

System Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electronic systems into UAV platforms, ensuring seamless operation and functionality.

Prototyping and Testing: Develop prototypes and conduct rigorous testing to validate electronic designs under various operational conditions.

Documentation: Prepare detailed design documentation, including schematics, BOMs, test procedures, and user manuals.

Project Management: Lead and manage electronic design projects from concept to production, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.

Continuous Improvement : Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies and apply them to improve existing designs and processes.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electronic engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Between 3-10 years of experience in electronic circuit design, with a strong focus on analog and mixed-signal electronics.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Proficient in Electronic Engineering and Electrical Engineering principles.
  • Strong expertise in Circuit Design and PCB Layout.
  • Experience with analog electronics, including signal conditioning and power management.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools for circuit design and simulation (e.g., Altium Designer, OrCAD, or similar).
  • Knowledge of UAV systems and aerospace electronics is a significant advantage.
