Job Description

About the Company

ID Quantique (IDQ) as part of IONQ, is a global leader in quantum-safe communications and quantum detection systems. We provide solutions to protect governments, telecommunication infrastructures, and banking & financial institutions from the “harvest-now, decrypt-later” threat, delivering both terrestrial and space-based quantum-safe networks in live operation globally. Our Quantum Detection Systems push the limits of single-photon detection, powering breakthroughs in quantum communication, sensing, computing, and ultra-sensitive imaging in partnership with top researchers and tech innovators worldwide.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Electronic Engineer to join our R&D department in Geneva. The successful candidate will take technical ownership of high-performance electronic subsystems that accurately drive and read out ultra-sensitive, fast opto-electronic modules (e.g., lasers, SPADs, interferometers). This is a hands-on role spanning architecture, schematic/PCB design, bring-up, and verification, with a strong emphasis on analog, RF/high-speed, and mixed-signal design to enable robust, industrial-grade products.

Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for developing complex electronic hardware from early prototypes to industrialised modules, including low-noise amplification, high-speed/RF signal conditioning, drivers for opto-electronic components, A/D conversion, and optimised power-supply blocks.
  • A key part of the role is designing high-performance, low-noise mixed-signal PCBs, applying robust partitioning, grounding, shielding, and layout techniques to preserve signal integrity and minimise coupling.
  • You will define and review block specifications with system, optical, and firmware engineers, and you will lead technical trade-offs around noise, bandwidth, timing, and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • You will plan and execute bring-up and verification in the lab, using structured test methods and data-driven analysis to ensure compliance with requirements and reliability targets.
  • You will also coordinate and technically guide subcontractors and suppliers, and help evolve the team’s design process, documentation, and review practices.
  • Own the design and verification of analog, mixed-signal, and RF/high-speed electronic subsystems, from architecture through schematic/PCB, bring-up, and industrialisation.
  • Act as the analog/RF reference in R&D, driving cross-team specifications, design reviews, and supplier execution to deliver robust, production-ready hardware.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic or Opto-electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
  • At least seven years of relevant experience designing complex, high-performance hardware modules.

Required Skills

  • Strong expertise in analog and mixed-signal design (low-noise, precision, and high-speed) and RF fundamentals (impedance matching, transmission lines, filtering).
  • Ability to apply signal-integrity and power-integrity best practices to deliver repeatable performance, including on high-performance, low-noise mixed-signal PCBs.
  • Comfortable creating and reviewing schematics and PCB layouts (Altium Designer), using simulation and modelling tools (e.g., LTspice), and working hands-on with laboratory instruments (oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, signal generators) to validate performance.
  • Clear communication with internal stakeholders and ability to present technical results and recommendations.
  • Fluency in English is required; French is an advantage.

Preferred Skills

  • Senior-level analog and RF/high-speed hardware expertise, with proven delivery of industrial-grade electronics from prototype to product.
  • Structured, hands-on engineer who can lead technical decisions, verification, and cross-functional execution in a fast-paced R&D environment.
