SW Engineer / Embedded Systems / Low‑Level C/C++

Role Description

This position will allow you to focus on embedded device development at the lower layers. You will work on developing new functionalities for control units in C and C++.

Lower-layer development at ComAp involves implementing more complex requirements in the areas of RTOS operating systems, communication protocols, and hardware handling, using an object-oriented approach in C++ when creating new and maintaining existing codebases. We use processors from ST and Renesas. Our current projects are focused on:

• CAN bus using CANopen
• ETH communication utilizing the second layer of the OSI model
• CyberSecurity

Qualifications

• C and C++ for embedded SW
• Processor peripherals
• Communication buses (UART, SPI, I2C…)
• ETH communication layers
• Real-time OS
• Thread-safe programming

We offer a monthly minimum of €2,150 gross for 3 years of relevant embedded SW work experience. We offer annual variable pay component upon meeting performance targets (both company and individual).

The selection process consists of two interviews. The first interview is technical and takes place in person. The second interview is usually online.

About the Research & Development Department

ComAp has its headquarters in Prague. R&D department covers software and hardware development, certification, and sourcing teams. We develop our own products (control systems for energy infrastructure), currently for segments including hybrid microgrids, marine, gensets, etc. We emphasize quality throughout the entire development process.

Within the embedded SW teams in Košice, we cover both low-level and application development. We catch bugs during code reviews, lessons learned sessions, and tech talks. We share our joys and challenges of SW development. We seek innovation. We work in an agile manner.

We use JIRA and MS Teams for internal communication. We have access to GitHub Copilot and Claude Code.

AI tools are part of our day-to-day work — they help us navigate existing code and documentation more quickly, propose solutions, and streamline code reviews. We are building internal AI skills and actively support our people in developing them. As a company, we are learning to use them as effectively, safely, and ethically as possible. The developer remains the author of the code — AI helps them work faster, not in their place. Our developers handle architecture, quality, and business logic; AI serves as a tool, not an author.
