Job Description

AI Motion (Intern / Engineer / Research Scientist)

Job Type: Exempt – Full-Time

Reports To: Head of AI Motion

Position Summary

VinMotion is building the future of real-world humanoid robotics—developing the hardware and software infrastructure needed for reliable deployment and frontier research. We’re on a mission to create intelligent, adaptable robotic systems that operate beyond simulation and perform in unpredictable environments.

As a member of the AI Motion team (Intern, Engineer, or Research Scientist depending on experience), you will contribute to developing and deploying humanoid locomotion controllers—from simulation to real hardware. You’ll work alongside a deeply technical team across controls, navigation, and systems to push the limits of humanoid mobility through rigorous testing, iteration, and real-world validation.

If you want your work to run on real robots, face real conditions, and meaningfully advance humanoid mobility—this is the role.

Primary Responsibilities

Depending on seniority, responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Design and implement scalable pipelines for locomotion and loco-manipulation (increasing ownership with seniority).
  • Develop agile, robust locomotion behaviors for humanoid platforms and validate them on real hardware.
  • Work on balance, contact-rich dynamics, high-DOF coordination, and terrain variability.
  • Drive iterative testing across unstructured environments and diverse terrain conditions.
  • Maintain reproducible simulation infrastructure for rapid prototyping and validation.
  • Partner with systems, navigation, controls, and embedded teams to connect learning with execution.
  • Design and optimize data-collection workflows to continuously improve models.
  • Lead or support deployment workflows from experiments to lab testing to field validation.

Skills & Knowledge

Intern:

  • Strong foundational knowledge of robotics, control, or reinforcement learning.
  • Experience with simulation tools (Isaac Lab, MuJoCo, etc.) is a plus.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++.
  • Enthusiasm for real-world robotics and willingness to learn quickly.

Engineer:

  • Hands-on experience developing or testing locomotion controllers on legged platforms (quadrupeds, bipeds, humanoids, exoskeletons).
  • Strong proficiency with robotics simulation tools (Isaac Sim/Lab, MuJoCo, or similar).
  • Solid fundamentals in contact dynamics, control theory, and robot kinematics.
  • Strong engineering practices and clean code standards (Python and/or C++).
  • Understanding of sim-to-real, domain randomization, system identification, or adaptive transfer is highly preferred.

Research Scientist:

  • Deep expertise in locomotion, RL, whole-body control, or loco-manipulation.
  • Strong publication record in top-tier robotics/ML venues or meaningful open-source contributions.
  • Proven experience bridging research and deployment on real robotic systems.
  • Ability to lead research directions and mentor junior team members.
  • Advanced understanding of complex robot dynamics, optimization, and high-DOF coordination.

Education & Experience

Intern:

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, CS, AI, Mechatronics, or related fields.
  • Research or project experience in locomotion or control is a plus.

Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, AI, CS, Mechatronics, or related fields.
  • 0–4+ years of experience in robotics development (industry or research labs).
  • Experience with real robot deployment is a strong advantage.

Research Scientist:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Robotics, AI, CS, or related fields.
  • Strong research background and demonstrated contributions to locomotion, RL, or control.
  • 3+ years of robotics R&D or equivalent research experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Relevant industry certifications, research publications, or recognized contributions to robotics or AI communities are a plus.
