Robotics Integration Engineer (Forward Deployed Engineer)
Remote (U.S.) | San Francisco Preferred | US Citizen
We’re looking for a
Forward Deployed Engineer
to operate at the intersection of software engineering, robotics, and operations. In this role, you’ll work side-by-side with product teams and end users to deploy autonomous systems, rapidly iterate on feedback, and ensure our technology performs where it matters most.
This is not a purely desk-based engineering role. You’ll travel to test sites, participate in field operations, and help shape the product roadmap based on firsthand operational insight.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will:
-
Design and implement autonomy software for aerial navigation, mapping, and real-time decision-making.
-
Collaborate with internal engineering teams to integrate new capabilities and improve existing systems.
-
Work directly with customers and operational stakeholders to understand mission requirements and deliver tailored technical solutions.
-
Diagnose and resolve issues in deployed systems, driving rapid improvements based on field feedback.
-
Plan and execute field tests, demonstrations, and pilot deployments in dynamic environments.
-
Act as the bridge between product development and end users, turning operational lessons into actionable engineering priorities.
-
Promote high standards for code quality, security, reliability, and maintainability across the software lifecycle.
We’re looking for:
-
Experience in a role that combines product engineering with operational deployment or customer-facing technical work.
-
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
-
Strong experience building robust, production-grade software systems.
-
A solid foundation in algorithms, data structures, and software architecture.
-
Hands-on experience with robotics frameworks such as ROS and autonomous or real-time systems.
-
Familiarity with aerial platforms and flight-control ecosystems such as ArduPilot or PX4.
-
The ability to adapt quickly in field environments and communicate effectively with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills, with a bias toward action and ownership.
Nice to have experience:
-
Sensor fusion, perception, computer vision, localization, mapping, or geospatial data processing.
-
Embedded systems or resource-constrained hardware deployments.
-
DevOps practices including CI/CD, containerization, and automated testing.
-
Defense or security-sensitive environments and related compliance requirements.
-
An active security clearance.
Why Join?
You’ll join a small, highly capable team building advanced autonomous technology and deploying it in environments where reliability and performance are essential. Your work will directly influence product direction, customer success, and operational outcomes.
We offer:
-
A fast-paced, collaborative startup environment with significant technical ownership.
-
Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage.
-
Flexible vacation and sick leave.
-
401(k), FSA/HSA, and commuter benefits.
-
The opportunity to work on cutting-edge autonomous systems and see your code operate in the real world.
Location:
Remote within the United States, with a strong preference for candidates based in or able to work closely with teams in the San Francisco area.
