Robotics Engineer (Remote, US)
Rex.zone connects mid-senior engineers with remote, full-time robotics work across autonomy, perception, motion planning, simulation, testing, and deployment. You will help ship production-grade robotic applications by improving reliability, safety, and performance using simulation-first validation and structured on-robot testing.
About The Role
Design, implement, and validate core autonomy capabilities for robotic systems spanning robot software architecture, perception/state estimation, motion planning, and closed-loop control. Collaborate cross-functionally to translate product requirements into deployable behaviors, and use simulation plus real-world testing to improve robustness and uptime.
Key Responsibilities
-
Build and maintain ROS2-based robotics software modules for perception, planning, and control
-
Integrate and calibrate sensors (cameras, LiDAR, IMU, encoders) and implement sensor fusion pipelines
-
Develop SLAM and localization components; improve drift, relocalization, and map management
-
Implement motion planning and trajectory optimization for smooth, safe navigation
-
Create simulation scenarios (e.g., Gazebo) to reproduce issues and validate features pre-deployment
-
Develop automated testing, logging, replay, and regression workflows
-
Profile and optimize latency, throughput, and resource usage on edge compute platforms
-
Partner with hardware, firmware, and cloud teams to deliver end-to-end robotic features and telemetry
Required Qualifications
-
Mid-senior experience shipping robotics or automation systems in production
-
Strong C++ and Python skills for real-time robotics applications
-
Hands-on experience with ROS2 and distributed robotic systems
-
Practical understanding of SLAM/localization, perception, sensor fusion, and control basics
-
Experience with simulation, unit/integration testing, and CI for robotics codebases
-
Ability to diagnose field issues using logs, metrics, and reproducible experiments
-
Comfort working remotely with strong written communication and async collaboration
Work Context
-
Remote role remains explicitly Remote; full-time schedule aligned with engineering delivery
-
Collaboration via code reviews, design docs, and issue tracking
-
Clear success metrics tied to autonomy reliability, navigation performance, and system uptime
Compensation
Hourly range:
$30–$50 per hour
(base salary). Final offer may vary based on experience and scope.
