Job Description

Robotics Engineer (Remote) — San José, CA

Build and deploy real-world robotic systems across perception, motion planning, controls, and systems integration. These remote, full-time roles support teams based in or hiring for San José and focus on improving autonomy, reliability, and safety in production environments.

About The Role

You will design, implement, test, and iterate on autonomy features for robotic platforms using ROS/ROS2. You’ll work with camera/LiDAR/IMU inputs, improve SLAM/localization performance, validate behaviors in simulation and hardware-in-the-loop, and contribute to data-driven evaluation workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop autonomy features across the robotics stack (perception, planning, controls)
  • Implement and tune motion planning and control loops for robust navigation
  • Build and improve sensor fusion, localization, mapping, and SLAM pipelines
  • Create test plans and automated QA evaluation (unit, integration, scenario-based simulation)
  • Investigate failures via logs/bag files, perform root-cause analysis, and ship fixes
  • Support AI/ML workflows when applicable (dataset curation, evaluation metrics, edge-case review)

Required Qualifications

  • Mid-senior robotics engineering experience in production systems or advanced prototypes
  • Strong C++ and Python skills with ROS/ROS2 experience
  • Knowledge of kinematics, dynamics, control systems, and trajectory generation
  • Experience with SLAM, sensor fusion, and debugging using logs/profiling
  • Familiarity with simulation tooling (e.g., Gazebo) and systematic validation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Computer vision / deep learning perception exposure and model evaluation workflows
  • Safety engineering practices (fail-safe behavior, redundancy, hazard analysis)
  • CI/CD, containerization, reproducible simulation environments
  • Deployment to mobile robots, manipulators, or autonomous vehicles

Compensation

Competitive hourly rate: $30–$50/hr (final offer depends on alignment and interview outcomes). Benefits and equity (if applicable) vary by team.

How To Apply

Apply on Rex.zone with a resume highlighting shipped robotics systems and measurable outcomes (e.g., success rate, collision reduction, latency improvements). Include links to GitHub, publications, demos, or simulation environments when available.
