Robotics Engineer (Remote, Full-Time)
Rex.zone connects robotics teams with engineers who build production-grade autonomy and robotics software. In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain robotics software and system integrations enabling robots to perceive their environment, localize, plan, and control safely and reliably.
About The Role
You will develop ROS/ROS2-based systems, integrate sensors and actuators, and improve robot performance through simulation, testing, and iterative debugging. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into dependable robot capabilities and reduce field failures through disciplined testing and observability.
What You Will Do
-
Develop and maintain ROS/ROS2 packages for perception, localization, planning, and control
-
Integrate sensors (LiDAR, cameras, IMU, wheel encoders) with synchronization and calibration workflows
-
Build autonomy features such as SLAM, obstacle avoidance, route planning, and behavior trees/state machines
-
Implement and tune control loops (e.g., PID/MPC where applicable) and validate stability
-
Create simulation environments and automated tests (Gazebo/Ignition) to reproduce and debug issues
-
Profile performance (latency, bandwidth, CPU/GPU) and optimize real-time pipelines
-
Define and monitor robot KPIs (navigation success rate, localization drift, intervention rate)
-
Document architecture, APIs, and operational runbooks for deployment readiness
Required Qualifications
-
Mid-Senior experience building production robotics systems or autonomy software
-
Strong C++ and Python skills focused on reliability and performance
-
Hands-on ROS/ROS2 experience (topics/services/actions, tf2, navigation fundamentals)
-
Understanding of kinematics, dynamics, coordinate frames, and state estimation
-
Experience with SLAM/localization, motion planning, sensor fusion, computer vision, or controls
-
Debugging skills using logs, rosbag/bag files, visualization tools, and profilers
-
Ability to write tests, use CI, and collaborate effectively in a remote team
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with Nav2, MoveIt/MoveIt2, behavior trees, and real-time constraints
-
Familiarity with embedded Linux, microcontrollers, and hardware bring-up
-
Experience deploying robots in warehouses/logistics, inspection, agriculture, or service robotics
-
Safety and reliability practices for robots operating around people
-
Cloud telemetry, fleet management, and over-the-air update strategies
